I would like it better built out of aluminum but it would cost a lot keep updating as I want to build the same

That is my plan. I'll explain more in my next couple videos when I get my trailer back to what my plans are and what my future plans for the trailer will be. But basically I just wanted to build something I could use(prototype) and easily change over time to what I need. Once I'm 100% satisfied with the way it works I will then start over using aluminum for a longer lasting and lighter solution.

That looks like it weighs a ton. How’s your suspension with that much continuous weight?

Nice. I'd love to make one for a smaller truck. I think that would make a better off road vehicle overall. I wish you luck with your build.

Very interesting. I watched all 6 parts. I can say I have no idea what I’m talking about, but I am curious of the strength and cost ratio of using wood. I dig your design and engineering and your implementation of that. I’m sure the kids will remember this building adventure for many years. Hope it all works out. Any updates?

Thank you. I am still awaiting for Line-X to do their part before I continue with this build. And once I have it back I can get a weight/cost sheet going. While I have my receipts. My cost is way higher then what it should have cost due to a few hiccups and after thoughts. And I'm sure after it's done I'll have even more changes.

You shouldn't have your gas inside the living space if it leaks at a connection point you could die. All campers have external tanks.
@RecceCampers

I couldn't agree with you more. This space is closed off from the camper and sealed shut. I will be ensuring that it is air tight(just the inside a vent will be installed on the outside) And I may not carry more then a few 1lbs bottles when I go out. My heating system will be diesel. And I cook with pellets. The propane is for an outside shower system. There is still some work to do before I keep any of it in there. I just want a place to store it. And I don't have anywhere else that I can do that. I'm open to suggestions if you have an idea where it could go. This closet is designed in the same thought process of the larger truck campers that hide the bottles in an outside locker.

Dude! Put the seams of ply on a stud
@RecceCampers

Yeah. That would have made a smoother finish. I agree. Honestly not sure why I didn't follow that route. I've always followed seams. Even the roof plywood was cut to match the beams. But good catch.

How much was the final cost of building this?
@RecceCampers
4 жыл бұрын
Around 1700$CAD/1300$USD. There is more cost involved. But I stopped counting after the Line-X was sprayed on. A lot of the parts I added were just a few dollars here and there. And I used a lot of the scraps from the shell to finish the inside.

Did it fall apart yet? Going off-roading with that on your bed is like putting a house through a 7.5 earthquake.

Its actually lighter then most campers out there. And no. It was pretty solid. A bit too solid to be honest. The protective spray did well to hold it together.

Aerodynamic,,,,?
@RecceCampers
3 жыл бұрын
I've had no issues on the road. And thanks to the slight angles I have gone out in wind storms and did not get pushed around. It may not be the most aerodynamic design. But it still beats the full truck campers. Next one will be a bit tighter to the cab overall though.

No I haven't. I watched a few videos online about it and it was interesting. But I don't have a really good place to work with that right now. It is on my list of methods to use when I get a new place.

@@RecceCampers it was split almost all the way through. It repaired it and made it stronger. First used tribond to glue in between the crack. Zip tied (or clamp) it together let it dry. Then sanded any runs or glue that came out of the crack so it was smooth. Then applied the glue 2 " past the lenght of the shaft all the way around. Then used a piece of harbor freight cloth drop cloth. Apply glue as I wrapped it around the shaft allowed 24 hrs to dry sanded applied another top coat allowed to dry 12 hrs primed light sanded then painted

It's where the mattress will be once I get one. The roof itself will pop up to give more room up there for a loft bed.
