Refinishing and repairing my great grandfathers wingmaster and the latch fell out and I was in full panic mode, this video helped a ton!

This video is exactly what I was looking for. I have two 870 that have lose shell latches. While I can get the trigger assemblies back in and operating, it's a pain in the neck. Finding a gunsmith to do that work is difficult and finding one that will get a gun back to you in a timely fashion is impossible. For $39, I'll buy this tool from MidwayUSA.
THANK YOU!!!!! I was freaking out when my shell latch bar came out. Very informative.

You don’t have to have them staked. It does make reassembly easier, but it’s not necessary .

my 870 shell latch (left side) was bent outwards so i removed it and straightened it out and just put it back in without re-staking it and it seems to function just fine. Great video though.

Thanks for taking the time to show us all the only tool that I’ve seen to do the job correctly!Fine job you did! People need to know that using the old stake places is ok just do not over stake as excess steel from receiver can interfere with the sliding motion! Just FYI

Awesome tool. My 11-87 was staked in 4 different spots from the factory. 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. And they are square shaped. It's not going anywhere. Lol

Good job. For future referance always remove the pin going towards the shell latch. Many folks go the other way and with the pin and if will sometimes assist in pulling the shell lach from its stakings

Thought id add, that Strobel reccomended filing a couple places on the holder to give the moving metal from the receiver a place to fill in. Two stakings minimum, 4 better. Thanks for the vid....

@JeanoBambino1

jwinnington Take a punch and tap the latch in the trigger pin hole towards the rear of the receiver. Make sure you’re not hitting the receiver, only the shell latch. It will ramp right out.

Unless staked properly it doesn't act correctly, won't let a shell out of the mag tube.

I dont remember the name of the tool. Go to midwayusa and search latch staking. That should get you close.
