Wow. This is amazing. I'm a 4th generation Surinamese/Dutch Hindustani out of India. Our ancestors were shipped out as indentured labourers 150 years ago. We still kept our culture and traditions intact as much as possible. So, with our weddings the Dulha wears a Jora Jama, that looks like a long yellow dress. It's so nice to find this kind of a connection to our roots.🙂

The jama is even worn today, passed generation after generation by the Dawoodi Bohra Shia Muslim Royal Family (High Priest) Dia - al - Mutlaq, made of pure cotton, in crisp starch white only. Looks marvelously awesome.

Traditional attires like Achkan, Sherwani and Indo Western are simply the prototype of these attire (Jama as you described). Due to British influence, the Indian textile Industry met its dead end and thus it the lower end is now became straight unlike the narrow part in Jama. Furthermore Nehru jacket is a prototype Achkan. Kudos to Mr. Bose 🎉❤
@LifewithBose

Absolutely, although sherwani is an outfit inspired by British tailoring and not of Mughal style. Same goes for the Nehru jacket. The achkans we have today are completely different from the ones that existed in the 1800s, they looked more like angrakha and not like bandhgalas or sherwanis of today.

@@LifewithBose your take is absolutely correct, clothes like Kurtas, Achkan (prototype of jama) were not introduced by the Mughals but the kushanas. Sculptures of Kushanas and paintings of Gupta empire is an evidence here. Though these clothes were merely for the elite ones, ordinary men wore Kurtas. Angarakha simply refers to the assymytric design on these clothes.

Speaking of Akbar: Interestingly, emperor Akbar probably used wear dhoti when not wearing in his court attire. There is a painting of Akbar in which he is shown shirtless, wearing a dhoti with an uttariya (upper cloth) and malas around his neck like a Rajput would. He was also the first Mughal emperor to start wearing the native Rajput style turban. Mughals before him wore Turkic or Persian style headwear.

Does northern,eastern and central India not have anything perticularly males clothing of it's original that's not influenced,made or brought by mughals,turks,afgans or their successors etc in the mediaeval age, apart from dhoti?
