In 2009, I came home from a deployment and my oldest son, who was 3 or 4 at the time, wouldn’t eat for almost 2 weeks... Being a father I was obviously concerned, so I asked him about it and his answer really hit me hard… He said, “Dad, if I eat I’ll grow up and if I grow up I’ll become a daddy. And if I become a daddy, I’ll have to leave my family.” My boys barely knew who I was and I couldn’t let them grow up without a father... I realized at that moment my family needed me a lot more than the Navy needed another SEAL. So I put in for retirement the next day… Back then I knew I wanted to be with my family more than anything, so I made changes in my life that allowed me to be at home. We all want more time to spend with the people we love or doing the things we love. That’s why I’m here to help! Once you read my New Rules of Marksmanship you will learn how you can stay at home, and save time and money while you improve your shooting! I promise this works… try it now: snip.ly/vqtwv4

I shoot low and left for a different reason; I flinch and pull the gun in that direction as a result. As soon as I discovered this, I emptied the gun and utilized a technique I had learned from an old gun nut- practice holding an empty gun and pulling the trigger over and over without jerking the sights at all. When my body was used to that, I reloaded the gun, aimed for a headshot, gripped the gun regularly, not too tightly, and fired. I got a few bullseyes in a row. Now I need to practice that as dry-fire for a while to make it muscle memory.

I had a guy tell me to "just adjust your aim". So he suggested to aim high right. Why would I want to enable a bad habit. I knew it was my grip and not my sights. I continue to have to pay attention to my grip and I can hit dead center each time. I get tired and I';m back to Low Left. thanks for the tips, they sure did help.

I don't remember where I read it, probably a spy novel, but recall that if ever someone pointed a gun at you, you should break left. I wonder if this has something to do with that thinking. I always thought it might have to do with more difficulty, tracking to the left vs tracking to the right by the shooter. Assuming a right-handed shooter.
@tiffanym4202

I was thinking about this yesterday as I left the range, somewhat disgruntled. It seems that shooting low and left is pretty common so if someone were to shoot at me, hustling off to the left makes a lot of sense.

Chris, I’m a retired State Trooper and I do shoot low and left at the range when I shoot weaver or isosceles. But, when I shoot without aiming with my eye(s), such as hip-shooting, I am dead on. Just got a BRAND NEW F&N FNX9MM that even has a better trigger and I t seems like its shooting to the left ! Bad!! Does anyone else have this problem exclusively with glocks? Every glock that ive fired shoots several inches to the left. My current G17 Gen 4 i need to aim about 6 inches right of where i want to hit at about 10 yards, but ive taken other guns (Taurus pt111, ruger Security Six, m&p shield to name a few) and hit right where im aiming just about every time. At first I thought my sights were off as they are aftermarket, but I realized this happens with EVERY glock ive fired, regardless of sights being factory or aftermarket. Any ideas?

I just started to re teach my daughter to shoot. When she was younger I taught her what we were all taught: the methods. When I found this channel I had to re-think what I’d been doing and I improved. Now I am starting her over with your philosophy. I’m sure she will be better than me in a shorter time period. She also likes your scientific and philosophical approach, so she is very receptive to what you are teaching. She is now learning where I had to unlearn and re-learn. She really picked up the front sight focus quick because it was what she was taught. Where I had to re-train my brain and eyes to get that focus. Thank you for your service and your work.

It could very well be the reason, i used to do that and in my case when i was anticipating i saw my sights go low and left a little bit. I managed to fix that by pressing the trigger like i was going to shoot but stop at the last second and i could see my gun moving because i was anticipating then a second later i would squeeze the trigger to shoot and i hit the center of the target. Simply give the trigger a slow, steady pull and let the shot surprise you

Thanks Chris. I think I am on my way to correcting my problem of milking the grip. It started when I attended a class which teaches the old push pull. I don't do that but it creeped into my brain and I was stuck for two days with it. I could use a proper grip, align the sights, press the trigger, watch my sights move in a perfect 12 oclock during recoil and still shoot low and left. Once I stopped push pull and simply gripped or captured, I'm fine. I also think of follow through as a teaching aid. If I picture follow through and memorize it as another building block it works. The follow through tip came from talking to Jerry Miculek.

My brother has outshot me for years. I finally got him to show me what we were doing different. He gently curls his fingers, catches the grip, then pulls the gun and places the rest of his hand on the grip that his curled fingers aren't already touching. Tried it. This motion puts the gun in a straight line with the forearm. Naturally, it doesn't "feel right" to me, but I have to say that it works. It works well enough that I've seen a shot with a handgun on a running coyote at a stepped off 270 paces that literally rolled the coyote. Even pressure, straight with the forearm, and the usual "squeeze don't jerk" instructions, and I would be willing to bet your scores will jump.

Nice video. Can you describe (or point to a video you have done ) for how you quickly draw and then confirm that you have gotten your grip correct? In a USPSA match, it is not practical to check your grip before you start shooting. You allude to “elbow out” in this video, perhaps you’d subtly saying elbow in would be better? BTW, I’m a member, if that helps.

The most common problem I encounter is fear of recoil. Pistol shooters equate squeeze the trigger with increase the squeeze pressure on the hand to handle the recoil. I teach to grip with the thumb, middle, third and pinky while keeping the first (trigger finger) independent and then pull the trigger, not squeeze the trigger.

Same problem here. Military Veteran + 32 years Law Enforcement and Avid Shooter, simply means I have quite a bit of experience with handguns. GLOCK is a fantastically dependent weapon, however, with me, the length of pull on the Full-Size GLOCKS is a little longer than on most other similar Semi-Automatics. When I acquire a proper grip on the GLOCK Full-Sized weapons, my trigger finger does not sit flat on the front face of the trigger. It sits on the trigger at approximately a sixty-degree angle thereby pushing the weapon low and to the left. Through lots and lots of practice, I have to apply equal counter pressure with my left (weak) hand and compensate for the problem. I do not have this problem with the other brands. I have contacted GLOCK USA to no avail! Don't let anyone fool you, the Gen-4's & 5's with removable grip backstraps only extend the reach. They do not reduce it. I have read several comments on here that grip and finger placement does not matter. IT DOES and just as much so as every other physical and mental aspect of shooting. Begin shooting slowly and pay close attention to the movement of the gun with each shot and make slight adjustments with each aspect until you find what works for you. Then, practice, practice, practice and more practice until your body learns what is called Muscle Memory whereby you automatically grip, draw aim and fire without giving thought to individual movements. I hope this helps. Good Luck and Happy Shooting!!!

I have two Ruger target pistols among other hand guns. The one with FIXED SIGHTS man I can shoot it just fine, good enough to suit me anyway. But I have a Ruger Target pistol with ADJUSTABLE SIGHTS and I shoot to the left with it. What gets ME is the MORE I move the REAR SIGHT TO THE LEFT THE MORE TO THE LEFT I SHOOT!! That is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE!! After moving the REAR SIGHT as far as it will GO and then AIMING TO THE RIGHT of the Bull's eye, I still hit LEFT. That is not supposed to be. I don't know what to think about that?? BB

Tried what you suggested - hand outstretched, simulating shooting, and I noticed exactly what you said, Chris, about turning the gun leftward; did NOT do as you said happens re downward, simulating about a dozen times. But the turn to the left is definitely a problem I can correct, thanks to you. As far as #2 suggestion goes, you make it confusing: first, you say to keep that second knuckle straight, which makes good sense and easily correctable; but then, you say one doesn't have to put the first finger pad on the trigger just because someone else says to. Well - if the second knuckle is straight, then the first finger pad WILL end up on the trigger, which is where it should go whether someone says so or not.

Meanwhile I qualified as sharpshooter with a M14 and should have been expert but for human error adjusting sights at prone position (I think 800 yards?). Anyway, left handed, last time at range fired Glock 15 rounds, 7 yards, red dot, first round hit dead center, the rest right and low right about 2 inches from center. if I had drawn a line down the target, it would have looked like I was aiming at the line. Thought issue was cross-dominant eyes, but since I close my dominant eye, didn't see how that could be it. Plan to try your system when I get a chance.

Notice he has like 100 vids of him talking and NOT 1 of him shooting a hand gun 😂

Hey Randizle! Yes, that is absolutely true! I purposefully choose not to shoot in my videos for a few reasons. One main reason is so my account does not get shut down by KZitem, and another is to demonstrate how dry fire training can help improve your shooting. I hope you still learned something from my videos even though no guns were fired. If you're looking for more information on why I teach this way, then check out my Manifesto! chrissajnog.com/newrules/

I keept shooting with both hands and I consistantly got groups to the right (left handed) and so I tried shooting one handed and I hit the center every time. I was like "what the hell am I doing wrong" and that first point you talked about is exactly what I was doing wrong. Ima go fix myself now.
