@@joyhoward6105 Another funny thing, you don't get a fine if your Autodocking computer is active. I've several times been about to enter or leave a station with more than recommended speed, been about to hit someone, then instantly hit the Stop engine button and watched my Auto-pilot take over, with no way of avoid the accident, rams the other ship, but no fine because it was an Auto-docker accident :D

It's more like a clutch. It won't slow you down, but it will prevent you from going above half of your max thrust if you engage it before going that fast.

@SariahPendragon I like to think about it as being connected to the thrust system. When you deploy the scoop, your ship won't accelerate past a certain point. Like a governer on a car. It won't actually slow you down - it isn't a brake. Rather, It prevents you from going to fast.

FA OFF all the time in PVP doesn't really have that much of an impact when compared to FA ON + FA OFF for turns then back ON. After all, it's just open space with no obstacles, what matters is how fast you can face your opponent. There are people who are terrible pilots and can't land right, but are amazing at PVP.

Quick tip on that one, the heading bug (left of the radar) changes to point at your pad once you go through the slot. Saved me so much time loitering at the entrance trying to find where I'm going.

Thank you cmdr! To be honest, Beluga was requested multiple times - but I don't own one, and unengineered ships aren't fun to fly so buying one for the video was a no-go. That's where I drew the line lol

Damn man, that was awesome to watch. And I think you have convinced me to sell my cutter. I see that even flown at the edge with more skill than i could ever hope to have and you still have to fly it like it doesn't even have maneuvering thrusters. A bloody type ten has more control of itself than that overgrown sidewinder. So sick of drifting past the door when trading. 10/10 you have done something with that I deem impossible lol. You put it in the mailslot with some bloody efficency

Hahaha, oh my friend, you are so right about the cutter. The only reason I keep mine is for the rare cargo CG that I actually choose to take part in, and that's only for the extra 50t or so cargo I can get in it over the T9. I won't use it for mining - I use the T10 instead because any gains in speed are completely ruined by the unholy stopping distance. And for the sake of full disclosure, I'll tell you that the clip in the video is not my first or second or third attempt. It was probably my fifth ;)

Unfortunately, this is only really possible with Multi-crew - so it's quite a challenge to set up. I'll keep it in mind though and maybe a future video will have what you're looking for!

I remember doing something like this back during beta.. except I would build speed far away from the port then go completely cold to avoid scan. Once inside the station, power back up, slow down and land. Not sure if smuggling is still done that way or not. Haven't played in several years tbh.

Coolest part is that the pads have to be random so this cant just be rehearsed over and over. Well, the entry can but not the stuff inside which i think is harder lol. Excellent control

Ha well yeah, basically you're right! It was never my intention to suggest that every run in the video was my first try. I had several rebuys with a couple of the ships before getting good runs for the video. But, like you said, I don't get to choose my landing pad so it isn't like I was just doing the same maneuvers repeatedly until I got it right. What I do have is a couple thousand hours of FA-Off practice and many many thousands of docking attempts, successes and failures. And yeah I still can't do it perfectly every time lol 😆

Fa-off is indeed hard, but only because you have to think about how to fly alot more than usual. Once your brain and hands get used to it, it becomes natural and flying starts to be about the limitations of your ship instead of your own limitations.

So can this be done on any ship, on a PC, without everything being engineered? Or is this just skill? cos I cant see anyway I could ever make a ship handle like this, and this is what kills this game for me. But if I just need to take the stabilisers off the bike and practice then maybe there is hope.

It helps to have HOTAS or HOSAS, but people do fly FA-Off without them. It really is like you said - it amounts to turning off Flight-Assist and, like learning to ride a bike, just keep getting back up and trying again every time you fail. No joke, most of us who fly like this have a couple/few thousand rebuys under our belt learning. Ever heard of astronaut pilots spending thousands of hours in the simulator learning to dock perfectly? That's what this is without all the stress lol.

It decelerates the ship rapidly. Allows to cancel out rotation and lateral velocity, and to slow down overall. You can see it being used to correct for rotation right before exiting the mail slot, also to slow down right before boosting back in and when turning around at the other end of the station

I've successfully done this twice. The other tens of times I damaged my ship or flat-out destroyed it, both on the way in and on the way out. Totally worth it if you nail it, though!

Being someone who pushes the limits yourself, have you ever stumbled on the ability to phase through orbital stations coming out of supercruise yet? This is a video of me doing it as I was working out the parameters when I first discovered it. You could give this video series a skim through: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tmywr4yrbmSDoXYfeature=shared I wouldn't spend a terrible amount of time doing the maneuvers in the videos, they can just be good little practice tools when you have nothing better to do. The main thing is to always fly without Flight Assist, so that you can get used to the more complicated input requirements to keep your ship under control. Once you're comfortable flying and docking without assist, the sky is the limit!

Also, look into the control layouts other people who fly without flight assist use on your same control method. Like KB+M, Controller, HOTAS.

It's the only game I've played where after the tutorial level I know LESS about operating the game. If it weren't for the community, this game would be unplayable.

@2sudonim yes, probably. Flight Assist always tries to zero all movement. It's what slows you down when you reduce your throttle, and what stops you from spinning or drifting when you quit giving thrust inputs. It also stops you from taking full advantage of the 6 degrees of freedom and zero drag nature of spaceflight.

@@dangerpencil Try one out just to get out the mail slot. It's insane. You basically ARE the size of the mail slot, and have to correct roll as you come out, or else that tiny gap will snag your ship's fat ass in the slot and get you fined. Cockpit offset is also a bit weird.

I was just here to see what the Cutter could do. It did not disappoint. People are always baffled when I say it's the best cargo ship in the game. Damn thing nearly kept up with the small ships. My question is how did you get it over 500m/s? Mine only boosts to 432.

@@dangerpencil I'll have to check, I think I went with clean drives thinking that would be more stealthy. I'm also not sure I got all the way to G5 yet. Otherwise our builds are pretty similar. I don't run any weapons or utilities. I also sacrifice some space to a 6A Prismatic and a docking computer.
