The football helmet is common practice in almost every ICU and also is common in well equipped ER's, but in the case of our local hokey ER I don't believe they would have them available ever!! A must for ICU' s and ER's!!

I love your enthusiasm for rheumatology. I just pray you keep that spirit. Too many rheumatologists in the US are so jaded and don't listen to their patients. I have been battling an undiagnosed issue for years. I finally got a rheumatology referral and was excited to go. I have a family history of autoimmune disorders and have all the classic vague symptoms. I spent about 20 minutes giving a thorough patient history and list of symptoms. He did a cursory physical exam, and then proceeded to tell me it was not rheumatological because my ANA was negative. He then, with a straight face, told me I may just have to learn to live with my symptoms without a diagnosis. That was it. I was stunned and disappointed.

A football helmet was once used on a patient in the emergency. He needed this procedure done and he was a football player who collapsed on the field and was rushed into the casualty. There was no helmet available in casualty, just the tubing. Patients relative suggested he go to the car and get his helmet which was used exactly like you did. It has become the accepted alternative to use in an emergency. Keep up with the videos. Love them. Thanks from Janet in South Africa.

Hey Siobhan, since you have had time in internal medicine I was curious if you've ever had a patient with Dysautonomia? I have "general Dysautonomia"; POTS, IST, OI, NCS. Here in the US there are only a few medical schools that teach about this autonomic disorder so finding a doctor who has ever heard about it is like finding a needle in a haystack. I have found the only doctors that have heard of it tend to be in internal medicine. Thank you for the life saving work you do! Stay safe on the front lines.

I always love the first couple seconds of Siobhan's videos. The generation of energy just draws me in. 1:20 - Regarding medical mysteries. Maybe you can uncover the mind-body connection where subconscious known negative associations become somatized into the body. Rheumatology is a perfect field for you because you have an uncanny ability of changing a person's current emotional state - the first step. 5:39 - Just trying to check in. That's amazing. That cognitive dissonance you're sensing in the moment -- something off in the body, mind, emotions/feelings - is key. There are tons of apps out there, and looks like you found something. Ideally the information relayed is to your listening preference - literal or inferential. 3rd party interventions come in when objectivity becomes challenging. Continued success, each moment.

Man! Have learned watching multiple videos of doctors and surgeons on youtube, especially yours, and have learned that every single day is a learning experience for them, no matter how many years or many times they have done a surgery, it is not nessacarily about the result, it is about what they can gain or accomplish knowledge during. Which makes absolute sense unless you are the patient. It is definetely beyond saddening and unfortunate to realize as a patient stand point. But as a patient with Epilepsy, I am researching and trying to gain just as much knowledge as my surgeon, whether they think that is accomplishable or not.
