'The Woman Who Fell To Earth' is a pretty decent opener and functions as well as an introductory story can be, plus Jodie Whittaker did show some promise as Thirteen from the start. As far as introductions go for new eras of Modern Who, this doesn’t have the reinvented zing of 'Rose', 'The Eleventh Hour' or even 'Deep Breath', but it did leave me cautiously optimistic and intrigued for the rest of Series 11, even if it did end up becoming my least favourite series of Modern Who overall by the end.

I really appreciate the move to Sheffield for Chibnall’s run. As someone who lives in Sheffield I’ve loved seeing recognisable places that I see everyday in the city. I’ve never been able to connect to Doctor Who when it was centred around London and never really moved elsewhere, so I never felt connected to the locations. Hell, the last time I remember any episode set up north was the Crimson Terror, and that made Yorkshire a generic and faceless place. However, I now feel like Doctor Who appreciates me and where I live much better than any previous season. I mean, in the most recent episode I saw the Arts Tower and Western Bank library, my university’s most iconic buildings, and I can’t describe how amazing it was to see them. So, I know that a lot of people have issues with Chibnall’s run, but for me he’s one of the best things to ever happen to the show.

This season has a few good episodes, but the season overall is "eh." I don't rate it as harshly as others done since this is Chibnall's first season. You can tell he is dipping his toe into the Doctor Who pool. He has written episodes before, but they were never the respected seasons's best episodes. Without going into spoilers my biggest issue with Chibnall's Doctor Who is that none of the adventures they go on feels like they don't evolve the characters. Yaz and Ryan, even during the current season, doesn't feel they aren't much different from when they began. Graham is great though. There are good episodes, with the current season being an improvement, but it doesn't reach the highs of Russel T Davis and Steven Moffat.

This year feels MUCH better than last year, but the lack of faith in the intelligence of the viewer, if that’s what’s happening, is getting me down a bit. Chris Chibnall also wrote 8 episodes of Torchwood during its first two seasons as well as two episodes of Doctor Who during Tennant's run and three episodes during Matt Smith's run. He also wrote the Doctor Who short Pond Life which can be found on KZitem. Outside of the Doctor Who universe, he created Broadchurch, wrote a TV mini-series called The Great Train Robbery starring Luke Evans and Jim Broadbent, and did a 10 episode adaptation of Camelot starring Jamie Campbell Bower, Eva Green and Joseph Fiennes.

The individual episodes in this season were okay. Nothing really stood out but I think the show suffered a bit from the sudden shift away from a season narrative. It wasn't necessarily a bad choice but definitely a very jarring one.

its suffered from terrible writing, cardboard characters, terrible music, being overly woke and extremely boring. The showrunner is a hack who acts like he hates DW and everything that was established in the last 50 years. He wanted to create new villains only to fail at creating even a single one so they had to roll back to memberberries... what a goddman hack.

"You're doing it mate" is somehow an extremely funny line to me. I thought this was a good opener for an enjoyable series. Series 11 feels very classic who-ish though, and that didn't please everyone. If you take that, and the established fact that The Doctor Who fandom is a pretty negative one, you get an underrated series. Looking forward to more reactions!

6:54 - Only just realised that Graham’s friend had already appeared in the first episode. He showed up again in the most recent episode. Didn’t realise he had already appeared. Curious to know how Blind Wave will feel about this series and the new era. I don’t think Series 11 is the worst as others do. It’s basically mid tier for me. I don’t think it’s bad but at the same time, I don’t think it’s the most memorable either. I think this opener is genuinely good though. Feels refreshing after the Moffat era but I wish Series 12 had taken its place.

Season 11 felt like Chibs and Co. were worried about confusing small children, so they made sure to explain everything at a Very Basic Level. Maybe they had an edict from on high to step away from Moff’s more baroque storytelling. The current season is better, but they do still contrive to have Jodie explain the theme of the week, as though to a mentally challenged person. I’m still loving the show, though. I adore all the actors and do not want anyone to leave just yet. 😔

I wasn't a fan of Series 7, but after rewatching it through you guys I liked it more (although I still think it's the weakest of the Moffat era). So I'm hoping the same happens here. I really like the cast, and I like the new look the show's going for, but for me it's the writing that lets this series down. For what it's worth though, I think Series 12 has _so_ _far_ been an improvement over 11.

I’ve never understood the hate of series 11. Sure, it’s very up and down. But I really liked the music. I thought the first three episodes were strong. And the premise of the series finale was amazing. In a lot of ways, New Who didn’t really get going until the second half of series 3, in terms of consistent quality. People forget the three episodes of farting aliens (series 1) all the gooey eyes between Piper and Tennant in series 2. And how template/cookie cutter it was for a while. First episode, new companion. Second episode, future. Third, back in time. Halfway through series, an episode where the series Big Bad is introduced. And I personally didn’t like most of series 7 (the first half a long goodbye for the Ponds, the second half, saying Impossible Girl over and over again).
@StealthMaster86

I think people are used to the Moffat new doctor episodes. In one episode alone, Smith and Capaldi proved why they are the new Doctor. Eccleston was good in Rose, but it wasn't until Dalek where he began to be a great Doctor. Tennant really didn't do much in The Christmas Invasion, but it was School Reunion that Tennant became the Doctor to me. You're not the only one that didn't care for Season 7. Moffat has said in interviews that Season 7 was his least favorite season due to the uncertain nightmare that was the 50th Anniversary.
@rindoubaka1574

Lol what. The farting was a terrible choice but aside from that, those 3 episodes are by far superior to anything that came from series 11. The music in series 11 is bland and monotonous, it's practically the same music throughout. The first episode was awful. A cheap version of Predator. It introduced the Doctor terribly having her fall through a roof and instantly spout techno babble until the end of the episode. She has no chemistry with her companions and by the end of the series, we don't understand why these people like the Doctor and travel with her. They never question her or doubt her. They're basically puppy dogs. The second episode was the one with the flying blankets right? The third episode had potential but ended up being a one note flat entry using racism for conflict in the story without actually exploring racism as a context. Let me improve the episode. Take the bland villain and make him an ancestor of the bus driver. Make it so he wants to stop Rosa Parks because he is persecuted in the future because of what his ancestors did. Actually have some depth to the story. Rosa had no depth. It existed only to show racism, not explore it. Also funny you say the concept for the finale was good because you can't praise the execution. A bland villain with a weak motive, no actual stakes throughout the entire episode. A weird unfocused subplot with two alien things. It's basically an underdeveloped version of Stolen Earth. Series 11 was terrible.
@scottredding7357

I think folks were expecting series 11 to be like series 1-10. And when it wasn’t (music; dynamic with companions), it was wrong. I looked forward to the music, since the same composer had done a two part documentary about volcanoes that I had seen. And the music wasn’t a space opera like series 1-10, but it was atmospheric and experimental and that’s a good thing. The only thing wrong with the finale was that it was resolved too quickly. If it was a special 90 min episode, it would have more room to breathe. Really, the only serious problems with the entire series was the writing of episode 4 and the lack of stakes in the Tsuranga episode.

They tried to do too much in one episode. For starters, a season opener has to establish The Doctor and their companion. Eleventh Hour had lots of supporting players, but Amy and Eleven were unquestionably the leads. Here, we have THREE companions who get introduced, not enough time to develop them all, not enough time to build unique relationships with The Doctor and each of them. It’s the difference between Avengers taking their time and DC jumping into the deep end with no prior setup. You get to know The Doctor via the relationship with the companion, and the relationship just isn’t there. I just didn’t buy it. And my God, the music SUCKS.
