Really interesting. I'd think they would have to follow humans for decades to see if the chance of celiac was actually decreased in the long term.

Yup, it would have to be a really comprehensive study

I have a friend who had to be gluten-free during pregnancy due to already having celiac disease. One of her children has celiac, the other does not.

Love this! Thanks for clearing the air. I love that you looked at HUMAN studies, not just animal, and pointed out the types of studies. So important.

How would pregnancy differ for a woman who actually suffers from coeliac disease - would she need to eat more supplements etc? And would any contamination of gluten risk her pregnancy? (Its possible to accidentally eat gluten in the 9 month period) :-/

Jesus I wouldn’t even do it if I had a choice. If you have a wheat allergy (I’m not celiac) it’s no fun. You have to read labels and in most cases cooking your own meals. I’d say limit your gluten and try to eat more vegetables instead.

Speaking as a celiac of 6 years, it's actually not as bad as it sounds! There are so many gluten free options in stores and restraunts always have gluten free information. You get really good at reading labels and you learn quickly what you can and cannot have. As for symtoms, I (and all my celiac family members) have found that the longer we've been gluten free the better our symptoms are, even when we accidentially have gluten! It's not always fun, but it's managable!

Conversely, is there any info on how being a gluten free mama will impact your baby if you don't eat gluten during pregnancy? Obviously there's always the hereditary possibility anyhow, but just wondering if there's any information on this. Love your videos!
