It was to be the Southern Most Colony in The Empire. One set-up to service a re-born British Whaling Fleet deep in the sub Antarctic waters. 500 kilometres south of New Zealand.
The staunchly British township Hardwicke was established in 1849 on The Auckland Islands.
Aspirational settlers arrived fueled with false promises from the projects leader and Islands Lieutenant Governor: Charles Enderby.
The gradual unwinding of the remote settlement are an arthropodological case study. An adult non-fiction version of Lord of The Flies.
The islands drunken escapades the stuff of legends.
