A lovely sequence from LULLABY OF BROADWAY that proved Doris Day was as good a dancer as she was a singer and actress. A true shame she was never given an Honorary Academy Award for her contributions to the medium of film.

I love this film! I discovered it after buying it for my Dad who's disabled, after becoming his carer. He'd watch it so many times, and I really got into it. It's really not something I'd normally watch, but we'd watch it together, and it means it so much.

Wow, I had no idea that this song could be so jolly and cheerful and chipper! I’ve only ever heard slow versions of it, sung by torch singers. Played at a sadder tempo, the lyrics really are sad ones. But in this version they didn’t seem sad at all😂

It's s sad that such a lovely woman as Doris Day never had a decent husband. Her first husband beat the crap out of her all the time. The man she was married to the longest and with whom she had her only child, stole most of her money. She deserved so much better.

Fantastic! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cannot believe how beautiful Doris Day's voice was, and Gene Nelson could sing too! Hard to believe he is Curly from Oklahoma!. What a great performer. I would take him over Astair or Kelly any day. He was better looking than either and could sing better too. I am developing a crush on him I think.

I admire Gene as well a Donald O'Connor. Still, as good as he was singing 'Kansas City'; 'All 'er Nothin', etc., as Will Parker, I am not too sure that his voice in this number was not dubbed by someone else, perhaps even Jack Smith (who plated alongside Doris and Gordon MacRae in 'On Moonlight Bay').
@aneamarlivana172

Gene Nelson was Will Parker in Oklahoma, not Curly. He did his own singing in Oklahoma, but in Lullaby of Broadway, his voice was dubbed. He had a perfectly fine singing voice, and I can't figure out why they would ever dub him.

I never saw this before as a take-off of Groucho and Harpo Marx's shtick in "Duck Soup." It is a funny piece of shtick, no matter who does it. One sometimes wishes present day sitcom writers would repeat these ancient comedy routines in their programs to remind the audience of just how timeless and effective this kind of comedy is. Lucille Ball reprised the shtick with Harpo Marx in one of her programs, and it was still funny.

Doris Day, born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff, passed away at the age of 97 on May 13th, 2019 in Carmel Valley, California... She had five #1 records; "Sentimental Journey", with Les Brown, {for 9 weeks in 1945}, "My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time", with Les Brown, {for 7 weeks in 1945}, "Love Somebody", with Buddy Clark, {for 5 weeks in 1948}, "A Guy Is A Guy" {for 1 week in 1952}, and "Secret Love" {for 4 weeks in 1954}... And just missed having three more #1 records when her "It's Magic" {1948}, "Again" {1949}, and "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" {1956} all peaked at position #2... Ms. Day was referred to in two #1 records on Billboard's Top 100 chart, "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham! {1984} and "We Didn't Start The Fire " by Billy Joel {1989}... And her name was also mentioned in four uncharted records, "La De Da" by Ringo Starr {1999}, 'Dig It" by the Beatles {1970}, "Dirty Epic" by Underworld {1994}, and "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" from the musical 'Grease' {1978}... May she R.I.P.

Most of us look up these clips to enjoy the particular performances and/or performers. Do not understand how it is that some find it necessary to turn our enjoyment into competitions regarding greater or lesser talent. Am not aware that anyone watching clips where Rita or Ms. Grable sing comments their not being able to do so as well as DD or any other professional vocalist.

DD was CERTAINLY light years ahead of Ginger Roger's, she COULD NOT tap dance! When Ginger was tap dancing with Fred, Hermes Pan would fill in the second taps off screen. Ginger would fake the taps.
