The great thing about Cow bay is the consistency of land breeze, despite the fact that nearby areas like Saltspring and even Brentwood bay can be very light.

Yes it’s a really nice thermal breeze that picks up just before noon and lasts all afternoon!

What is your rich speed with 15 knots of wind?
@SailingTipsCa
Жыл бұрын
We can reach at about 1.2 times the wind speed and start to back off once the boat speed gets into the high teens. So 12 knots of wind gets us 15 knots of boat speed, and 15 knots of wind gets us 17-20 knots of boat speed.

You need to clear your sheets and halyards before you maneuvers. Much faster if you do.

Yes we could have done a much better job with that!

Thanks! Yes the rats nests are embarrassing and completely avoidable with adequate tidying! Hard to focus on that short-handed with 57 boats racing in an area only a few miles across so lots of traffic!!!

Nice sailing thanks for posting, I'd asumume you've got a purchase on the jib Cunningham what ratio

Glad you enjoyed it! We've experimented with a few different jib Cunningham configurations using uncovered Dyneema and low friction rings because there isn't much space up there. I this regatta we were running at 2:1 because it wasn't particularly windy. We've also used 4:1 in other regattas with more breeze, but found it's also a bit more prone to fouling because we're just running multiple loops through the same rings, which sometimes ride over each other and make it more difficult to release.

Fantastic video Garry. Only watched it twice so far. Got the shipping notice for my sails today. Surprised the box with main jib and screacher is 117#s. Same weight as Joanne. Battens and track are extra.

Glad you like the video! I'm not really surprised with the weight of your sails having lugged ours between the house and the boat numerous times! Most of the weight is probably in the main sail, as they are quite robustly built compared to monohull sails of the same size because of the righting moment of the multihull.

@@SailingTipsCa I am surprised they are that light! Including the box. Especially when the screacher includes a torque rope. All new to me. $170 per pound!

@@garthharrington9683 I had both Dacron and laminate sails for my last monohull and the laminate sails are literally half the weight! But the monohull sails are also much lighter for a given sail area than the multihull sails due to the righting moment!
