For the record, not all carbon spokes are created equally. Winspace/Lún use "ST" and Farsports / Elite use "BYX" (You can tell by the laser etching on the spokes. BYX usually have no markings, ST will say "ST-01")

As a wheelbuilder I'm not saying carbon spokes are bad per se. I believer for high performance wheels they might just be the future. But at the moment I'm not convinced they're worth the trouble and the up in cost. A) Spare supply in the long run would be a concern to me and B) IMO the jury is still out on the long term durability of these spokes. Carbon spokes are a lot less flexible than steel spokes. But it is the flexibility and the spokes ability to be stretched und put under pre-tension that enables a wheel to take continuous hits without going out of true in the long run.

This guy lives in a fantasy world. No wheel manufacturer is going to replace the whole wheel because of a few broken spokes. Broken spokes don't mean the whole wheel is suspect. That is silly. Broken spokes happen all the frigging time. Drive wheels are ridiculously light. It is not surprising they may break hitting a sharp bump. Wheel building is not rocket science. They offered to send him new spokes. There is no real safety issue. Just replace the frigging spokes and be happy.

Elite only gave me the option of a rebuild at my own cost and called it an accident. They looked at damage to rim after the tire blow and said an accident caused the rim damage and not the failure of the rim bead hook and tire interface. I rode these wheels for about 100 miles before this happened. I have been riding tubeless tires for two years and known how to seat them to a wheel. I de-lamed a rear yoeleo rim braking on a fast steep hill with a sharp corner at the bottom. Following a mate and his carbons were fine. Not the front interestingly. $US600 so a cheap wheelset, so thought I'd be lucky getting a response. Contacted them and they sent me out a warranty replacement rim(one of those tl rims without rim holes which I prefer, but with nipples installed in place luckily) Although I had to pay postage which was quite expensive (I didn't care too much as just wanted a functioning wheel!) and would need to pay to have my LBS build them up. So bought a tension meter, tools and learnt how to lace/true/dish wheels. took me 10x's longer than a wheelbuilder but enjoyed the process. And ending up with a newer style rim with high temp resin so pretty happy. I knew it was a risk buying a cheap wheelset, so knew it was a possibility that if anything went wrong I may be stuffed.

Great video GC, very interesting topic. Let me tell you my experience with Chinese carbon wheels. I bought a carbon wheel set from Tuff cycling, with Sapim bladed spokes and DT 240 hubs. Payed US $1100. wheels came and rode them for over 1k miles, that was 2020. 2021came and used the wheels often, may be 500 miles put on. One day i am getting my bike ready to go out and i see a loose spoke. The nipple crumbled like a cookie, the spoke was fine. Contacted the manufacturer they said it happens, its wear. My LBS said it happens, replaced the spoke and the nipple for $35, a month later another nipple failed. My LBS checked tension and replaced the second nipple. I dont ride in wet or salty conditions. I put the wheels in storage never to used them again, now i am afraid to use them. I will remove the dt hubs and built something else may be with Hunt rims.

No dog in any of this but thought you should know......If using aluminum nipples, you should be prepared for, and expect full wheel rebuilds at a minimum of every 2 years. More often if you live in a coastal area, wash your bike a lot, or true your wheels often. Aluminum nipples corrode very quickly and rebuilds should be factored in to maintenance cost. Use brass if you don't want to deal with this, but know there will be a significant weight penalty. Aluminum nipples are awesome but they do not last very long at all. This should be explained by these companies. Good luck.

GC you should stay out of this you've been presented with a "story" with no actual proof of what happened, sure they may have good dud spokes or maybe his riding buddy rode into his back wheel, he was hit by a car was he on these wheels when that happened? which lead to them breaking later on, or a dog bite them you just don't know
