Can confirm, Rhodiola Rosea works day #1. I used this stuff to get through stressful work days with a dog-shit co-worker. The only reason I stopped taking it was because I was worried it was making me nauseous or causing muscle cramps. Looking back on it, some extra hydration and a magnesium increase would have done the trick, but that person was fired and I didn't retry RR. I just remember feeling a positive difference pretty quick, unlike Ashwaghanda, don't have the patience for it yet.

St. John’s Wort is amazing. 40 yrs old, never been diagnosed with any psychological or emotional disorders, But More or less have dealt with a very active mind which could lead me down paths to mild depression… Have taken it almost consistently since my early 20s, and when I am feeling good after weeks or months of taking it and I run out and think I’ll be fine and I’ll eventually get a new bottle, with a couple weeks I notice Decline and the way I start worrying about everything. And within weeks of starting again, I noticed a huge difference.

This is really interesting, because I have been taking ashwagandha 1,200mg daily in the morning along with a 7 mushroom complex (Chaga 300mg, Lion's man 300mg, Cordyceps 300mg, maitake 300mg, Reshi 300mg and Shiitake 300mg) for a month now, I feel great, better than before, my sleep is better, my exercise output and muscle growth has improved, I work daily in the mornings either weight training or cardio session. My mood and focus has also improved massively including just being able let stress go without holding onto it. My experience ashwagandha seems to be the opposite of what Dr. Huberman stated. I will need to try it the other way round as well perhaps take Rosea in the mornings, I used to take it but haven't for awhile, I believe Rosea tablets used to be given to Soviet soldiers to help them deal with stress.

In the Four Hour Body, Tim talks about ingesting a minimum of 30gm of protein within 30 minutes of waking up. While Andrew talks how ideally we should not eat anything within the first hour (or longer) of waking up. How does one resolve this?

I guess both have different benefits and adaptations to your body/metabolism, it depends on your goals, for example if you seek hypertrophy, better to have protein as much fractionated throughout the day as possible. Not a doctor, this is just my understanding of those different approaches by Tim, Huberman and many more.
@dickcheeseaccumulator7325
Жыл бұрын
The rationale behind both is similar: not eating carbohydrates early leads to higher cortisol in the morning and increased brain noradrenaline, dopamine and focus. It’s exactly the same rationale that’s behind intermittent fasting or carb backloading. The only difference is that if you are ingesting protein you slightly heighten insulin which lowers cortisol slightly, but it also gives your muscles nutrients to build and your brain AAs to make neurotransmitters. In the end if you only consume protein in the morning, the body is going to use it as fuel for energy production though, so Tim’s suggestion I find rather outdated but definitely not hurting, could even be a way of giving the brain fuel without spiking insulin.

Your own experience inside your own body is always going to the best indicator. People respond differently to the same substances. What might be terrible for one person can be great for another person. I mostly think that if you feel something benefits you, and it doesn’t have major drawbacks or consequences, than why not? Whether it’s supported by data or not is less important than your positive experience

Rhodiola was amazing for me until it stopped having an effect. But Huberman is making it seem like you don't build a tolerance to it.. maybe I'll try it again. I used it years ago before I ever heard of Huberman. And my stress levels are already low and I just bought ashwagandha.. maybe I shouldn't have.
