Sorry, but this has nothing to do with "Goth". Goth man still found refuge in a "God". The theme of the song deals with an adverse posture in relation to the divinity: the disappointment with all the divine precepts. "We couldn't love but you paired us together to walk hand in hand the irony We couldn't make this world ours..."
@Zelphraeya
2 жыл бұрын
@@Xapiro To me, it has the same undertones of living a lonely life of pain with the human condition, their acknowledgement of God, and their acknowledgement of their own worth as a human being/ soul; similar to songs like, "Hello, My Name Is Human" by Highly Suspect (theirs and Drab Majesty come across as wanting respect), and, "Once In A Lifetime" by Wolfsheim (he wants respect in the form of dignity, as he is about to take his own life). "You" = God in "Not Just A Name" and "Once In A Lifetime". Other than that, I'd say contemplating human existence and your relationship with life, death, the afterlife, and the divine are essentially Goth themed in my eyes; as a person who has interests in the Gothic Subculture. Side note if you want to check them out: Two songs that seem to be along the theme of spiritual traps & their perception of reality are, "Tricks" by OhGr, and, "Gimmicks" by File Not Found.
@Xapiro
2 жыл бұрын
@@Zelphraeya Perhaps, first, we would have to define what we mean by "gothic", in order to reach a consensus. Before the Gothic subculture in Modernity, Meroveu, leader of the Franks, already used the word to differentiate himself from the Romans. "Gothic" comes from "Goth", a generic name for the barbarian tribes north of the Roman Empire.

Idk why but this song makes me so very sad, the melody and the music, the lyrics. I cannot help but cry whenever I hear it. I know it’s about heavens gate members but i also interpret it as people in this world that are lost, alone, scared to love, scared to be loved, feeling unworthy and just wanting anyone to connect with. To just feel alive instead of feeling alone and adrift in a world that doesn’t care. This song is very dear to me.
