I just want to let you know that I'm in Yorkshire in England so you're reaching so far afield. I also have a high waist and unfortunately I also have a vertically challenged body, which has given me nightmares trying to get clothes to fit. There are so many times I've made a dress or top not fully understanding the fit and had yet another failure as the proportions have either dwarfed me or been less than complimentary. I want to thank you for taking the trouble to produce your videos, which I'm devouring as they're so straight forward, honest and understandable, thank you. I can see you're pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and I'm so grateful as it means I can benefit from your advice. I'm just drafting my bodice block now before I start work and although I'm not impressed with my shape, it IS my shape and I see now that I need to own it. At least with your advice I'll be able to dress how I want it to look, rather than having to buy the awful garments in shops that are the only ones in my size. Thank you again - I'm extremely grateful x

I just found you on KZitem and oh boy I have been binge watching your videos. This particular video is so so informative. You have done brilliant job in explaining every little detail. One day I will conquer a perfect fitting bodice as my current comfort zone is only sewing with knits fabric (I’m a beginner). Can I also say you have such beautiful accent. Thank you for all your hard work. Love, From England.

The fact is most of that are aging are changing on body type and breast size. Ready to wear in us also does not address this issue unless you want to pay out the big bucks to buy w guy at could fit. I too went from a b cup to a c cup, then a double DD cup and had a reduction. Here is an another issue I'm a B cup with a width of 42. That means I should be sewing my own clothes just I did when I was 15. You and I are built very similar and you have inspired me. I am originally from Mexico. Live in USA. I'm half american/ Mexican. When I see what you sew and how to make the best of our bodies, I'm starting to sew for Me again. Karina your beautiful and your skills are amazing.

I loved reading all your thoughts. Yes, RTW is not for bodies of a certain type even if we do fit into them in theory... the darts and lengths are always way off. That is the joy of sewing... getting the right fit. I’m glad you’re sewing again! Yay!

I feel the same as you about the bust. I've gone from a 36 C to 38DD. I don't want cleavage showing, nothing tight at that area, it isn't flattering at all. I used to wear minimizers but now I can't stand to wear an underwire. I'm much older than you and no longer want to go sleeveless. The body changes no matter what. Enjoy what you have whatever it is.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles

I’ve never wanted cleavage on view, even when young and it’s a personal preference. Minimizing bras are still what I go for. I love sewing to make exactly what I like.
@RavenStealstheNight

For bust measurements, isn't it around the bust/nipple when figuring out the size in patterns? It's not the same as bra measurements, because this is the rib cage measurement with cup size. Is this wrong or right?
@connieturner6575
4 жыл бұрын
@@RavenStealstheNight For patterns use the high bust measurement which is under the arms and around the upper chest, then measure your actual bust, the difference will show whether you need an FBA full bust adjustment. you can find tutorials on proper measurement techniques on KZitem

Hi Karina, I am new to your channel and found you through Joy Bernhardt channel recommendation. I enjoy your instructions, but I need to ask why you divide by 6 to get the neck hole measurement? Thank you, Mary from Leola PA.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
4 жыл бұрын
The dividing by 6 gets a standard closed neckline proportional to the other measurements and it’s what was taught to me by my great aunt, who was a couture sewing teacher. The making of a block will have some standard types of divisions based on our measurements. This is the same with different schools of thought too.

Karina, I am just watching this old tutorial and am going to make one. Would it be possible for you to make a tutorial showing how you would use this body block in conjunction with a paper pattern from say Itch to stitch or love notions to get the fit right ? That would be awesome. Thank you. Xx
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
2 жыл бұрын
A bodice block is not for using it to compare other patterns at all. It's a good replica of your body, in a fitted way and the base to design your own patterns. Pattern brands will have different ease and style and will not compare to the bodice block. Making your block will help you learn so much about your body (bust height, waist height, shoulder width) and that knowledge will help you make measurements to your patterns and adjusting them will be easier. But, you don't just overlay a block over a pattern.

Thank you for this great video. I have followed your instructions very carefully and sewn up a toi!e. To my surprise, however, I found that my sway-back problem still persists. To fix it I have made a dart across the the back on my pattern, narrowing out to the sides, and hope that will cure the problem.

Wendy Raw as I'm not formally trained I don't know the exactly method other than trial and error. I know the average person has a 3-4 cm drop. When you are making your block /sloper you can experiment with 1 cm more to less to get the best fit. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

Wendy Raw I really recommend another KZitemr her name is Chic Francisco. she is very clear and easy to understand. I liked her because she went through the process and a very organized Manner. And she has you do each step over and over and over that way you really know that you know how to do it. I hope this helps!

@LiftingPinsandNeedles

Do you have a E or F cup size. This tutorial is free and basic and will work for cups A-D. To distribute such a difference it takes a darts and added dart equivalents and that is advanced pattern making.

What does ease mean and why are there plus signs
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
4 жыл бұрын
Ease is the extra space you need to be able to move and breathe. A pattern can’t be made with our exact measurements and that’s why I added 4cm to my measurements.
@chiburemchukwuma3680

Please, why are you dividing the measurements?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles

Because a bodice uses the fourth part of the body measurements. So the body measurements are divided by 4.

Eeleenz maybe you want to purchase a class about this topic and not try to learn this for free on KZitem.. This was one of the first videos I filmed and I didn’t even have a tripod back then. If you quickly scroll and see the comments you’ll see that my “non professional” way of explaining is what has helped people understand how to do this. Telling me what to do and how to do it is rude and maybe you could write this better because I can hardly understand your words like “bcoz”
