The Redlands always have the best produce. When I lived in Monroe Co. We made a weekly trip to get , papaya, star fruit and dragon fruit. The quality was great and the taste was unbelievable. Now I have my produce manager getting them for me from S. Florida. Thanks for all of the wonderful produce.

Great short documentary. The Red Dragon Fruit was so juicy but your face told me the white one was sweeter We ate these for the first time Malaysia. They were served frozen and our kids just ate them straight from the skin. They wanted more. Thanks again for the video and I will check out the site for more technical detail about growing them.

hi question for you?! i am growing my plant in brevard fl like 3or4 county's above you. i got my when it was like 6 or 7 inch's and it only had one green part grow and now it has 3 parts and each one is about 2 and half feet tall. my question is i was talking to someone&they said the only way to have it pollinate is by having 2 plants growing right to each other so it can cross pollinate each other?! is that true? your video said bees and bats pollinate it. do i need a second plant or will 1 do?

Hi! The time it will take for your plants to bear fruit depends on several things. How big the plants were when planted, the care you have given them while they grew, and the weather conditions in which they have grown. It is possible to get a piece or two of fruit the year after you plant the dragon fruit plants, but I would plan more on two years after - again, depending on the above conditions. But be patient - the wait is worth it!

PART #2 The pitaya species Selenicereus megalanthus is also grown in Florida and will pollinate pitaya in the genus Hylocereus . If you are trying to develop a new hybrid, hand pollinate Cereus peruvianus with these species of pitaya: Cereus triangularis and Cereus ocamponis. Hybrids are crosses between different cultivars in the same species or between 2 compatible species within the same genus.

I am growing the red variety. I once bought the white one and put it in a fruit salad that I brought to a pot luck dinner. I think it added an element of beauty and uniqueness to the salad. A few people asked me what it was, and said they liked it. What's not to like?

Hi there, when you walk into the supermarket, how can one tell if the dragonfruit he or she picks up is either the red flesh or white flesh variety? The stickers on them don't usually say... (at least in the supermarket I go to doesn't have any useful stickers... they just say "dragonfruit" and that's about all it says).

I believe this fruit has been known for a long time in other parts of the world. of course it is popular in latin america, but i also heard it is very popular in east asia, like vietnam and taiwan. glad to see some exotic fruit is growing in popularity here in the states. sometimes an apple or banana gets old, it's nice to try new foods.

I know you answered a similar question earlier, but can you be so kind and answer it anyway. I live in the tropical island of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, do you think I can grow this plant here, or is it to wet and humid????? Also, I've been told not to grow them on trees, since the plants might grow over 7 feet tall and make them incapable of growing fruit. Is this true??? PLEASE ANSWER ME

Sorry for this late reply. Yes, you should be able to grow dragon fruit under Puerto Rico's climate. It is hot and humid here in South Florida as well! I have not heard about this tree restriction. These plants grow, and fruit, very well on trees. The only problem with doing growing it in a tree is that it will be very hard to harvest the fruit from high in the tree. I'd suggest making a trellis to confine the plant to a more manageable height. Good luck! TFGSF

Yes, here in south Florida we can grow some truly wonderful, and delicious fruits and vegetables. But, don't undervalue what can grow where you live, and the what your neighborhood provides to you. Even in the city, residents can grow delicious vegetables and fruits in pots. You may be able to grow delicious blueberries, where we here in the south of Florida cannot. And what I wouldn't give to watch the leaves change color in the fall! Look around, there's a lot of good things where you live!

HI! Since the thorns along the stems of the dragon fruit plants are quite small, I do not believe that removing them would do any harm to the plant. But there really is no need to remove the thorns, as their small size do not pose much of a harvesting problem. If you are concerned about getting poked by a thorn, just wear a long sleeved shirt and some garden gloves when picking your dragon fruits! Happy harvesting! TFGSF
