This is a traditional type of candy in China, called 'Dragon's Beard Candy'. It's fairly easy to make, though it's a rarity these days. It holds a huge place in the tradition and history. It was invented during the Chinese Han Dynasty as a present to the emperor who then decided to call it Dragon's Beard Candy due to it...well, reminding him of a dragon's beard. Duh. Additionally, Dragons have always been the symbol of the Chinese emperor. Back then, this type of candy was reserved exclusively for royalty due to the limited amount of chefs who were able to make it. Later the Chinese Communist Party forbade the Chinese populace to take part in activities that could be attributed to the Han dynasty. And thus, this traditional art of candy making became even rarer and has been on the verge of dying out ever since then. It has only recently gained attention again from tourists posting the process on social media. So, long story short: Thank you for helping in preserving a wonderful piece of Chinese culture and tradition before it disappeared forever ❤

The earliest Turkish reference to pişmaniye is a recipe by Şirvani,[3] a physician writing during the 1430s. The Persian form pashmak, related to paşmīna and paşm, the origin of the Turkish name pişmaniye,[4] occurs in the poetry of the Iranian poet Ebu Ishak, also known as Bushak (d. 1423 or 1427).[5] "Pashm" in Persian means wool, and "Pashmak" means wool-like.
