This is the reason why Petrucci is my favorite guitarist of all time - he can play with feel but also can shred the fuck out of those notes while pulling out a great melody at the same time

I'm happy to see that he seems to be returning to his "wrist deviation" former glory...for a while he was becoming a "forearm picker", which just looks a lot less refined than using only the wrist. Awesome player...my favourite!
@tadejsusta
6 жыл бұрын
Omg, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I think that he must have had some kind of injury, maybe a tendonitis, so he had to compensate the fast picking with his forearm. It seems that in 2017, he healed and is able to wrist pick again. But if you compare it to the wrist picking motion from 10 years ago, you can see, that his wrist is a bit "flabby" or "gummy" and not so sharp moving like back then. Because of this, I usually get the feeling as if he won't be able to pick that fast anymore. But luckily I'm wrong, since it doesn't seem he lost any speed because of it.

yes sir,...although looking through this mans older videos one thing I did notice is it seems like he was better when he was younger,..more dynamic phrasing, better tone, and overall better feel....that confused me a little bit....its almost like his playing became MORE mechanical...

I just don't get it... No diss either to anyone the guy is famous.. But i seriously cannot find one single ounce of excitement in his playing. He is precise, has written some cool riffs and can pull off his duets with Jordan with aplomb... But his note selections and his lack of intensity???. He was so shredly when he was younger now it seems routine and uninspired Just opinion ...
@funkster007
8 жыл бұрын
Nah, not just your opinion. JP can shred like nobody's business, but he's always gone off on these extended jams and you almost forget which song they were playing. As if DT's songs weren't long enough. lol.... but yeah, I think he's also lost a lot of the creative spark he had back in their heyday. Like most musicians and bands do eventually anyway.
