I love how you don’t explain where you get your reason to plug in the numbers where you do. Like In the last question. Why do you put 1hr over 60mins instead of 60mins over 1hr, or why you choose to place 10gtts over 1ml instead of 1ml over 10gtts. Or why you don’t follow pedmas in these equations by doing your divisions first followed by your multiplications instead you multiply across the top to get 5000 then multiply across the bottom to get 240 and then divide those two numbers to get 20.8gtts but you don’t say that either you just round it up and say you got 21gtts. Like I’m staring at my calculator thinking it’s broken. To me it just seems like your just plugging numbers in on a whim. I know there’s reason but it’d be nice for you to actually explain your rational rather than just spit out the answers.
@MagicinNursingTeam
2 жыл бұрын
You put in numbers so that you can cancel units. For example, you put 1 hr over 60 mins so that you can cancel out hour. If you put it the other way around, you will not be able to cancel the hour. For drug calculations, the unjt cancellation method is an excellent method. There are different methods as well but we prefer this over the other methods.

A patient is prescribed 500 mL of glucose 5% and sodium chloride 0.9% to be infused at 62.5 mL per hour. What volume of fluid (in mL) would remain after 4 hours? Give your answer as a whole number. mL A bit confused with this question. I hope you could help me. Thanks! ❤️❤️
@hannahj7855
2 жыл бұрын
The answer is 250mls. If 62.5mls is given per hour, in 4hrs 250mls will be given. Therefore, after 4hours the volume of fluids that has been administered (250mls) must be subtracted from the initial volume prescribed(500mls) inorder to get the volume remaining.. Hence the answer is 250mls

I was taught to start by putting down what you are looking for on the left side of the equation, then the equal sign, then put the given data on the right side starting with the given containing the numerator of the left side. Then place the other given data in order to cancel units exactly as you have done, the the math. This way requires little thinking while getting the correct answer. For example using your 1st problem: ml= 1000ml/ 1 liter X 1.2 liter/1 5th problem ml= 1ml/10mg x .3mg/1kg x 65kg Been doing it like this 40 years.
@ShaneIvic

Could you explain this a bit more please? I'm lost here "given containing the numerator of the left side."
@Jslav-jj2xq
2 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneIvic so the given is the data you have. Example...how much does it cost ($) to drive 100 miles? "Given" data: Gas costs $4/gallon Your car gets 20 miles per gallon Setup: looking for dollars on left side so I put $4 in numerator 1st on the right side then just alternate units in numerator and denominator to cancel everything but $. It's hard to explain with a phone keyboard, sorry. $= $4/gallon x 1 gallon/20 miles x 100 miles Solve: ($4 x 100) / 20 $400/20 = $20 Hope it helps.
