This was the classic line up that I saw live three times in 1979 and 1980 leaning over the edge of the stage at Hammersmith Odeon, London. I was so close my eyebrows were singed as the smokebombs went off. Although they are miming here to the studio track this is exactly how they sounded, looked and acted on stage at live gigs.

UK, Young One, Broadcasts on the Beeb, this hit like a freight truck. I think only the Damned hit so hard from a Young Ones appearance and that was with a song they wrote special for the show. Also check out "Headgirl", a colab Motörhead did with Girlschool, a UK all female rock band. The lead track was a cover of "please don't touch", it made number 5 in the charts! The national POP charts. In the 80's weird stuff like that could happen

Yep, this is 1980, but Lemmy formed the band in mid 1975 and this line-up was together from early 1976. They always sounded like this, just got better at it. During their heyday, Motorhead was the only heavy rock band that punks were permitted to admire. Denise Dufort was the drummer from Girlschool (all-female rock band), who had collaborated with Motorhead before.

Legit genuine - dude added me back on Fb when I found his account, and it wasn’t one of those fake celebrity ones run by a crew. It was pretty early fb days, maybe 2009; just an old rocker shooting the shit with fans sometimes when he got back from the pub. Fucking blew me away till the end how real he was. That no-frills real rocker thing can be a carefully managed persona, too… but not Lemmy. Didn’t ever act like he was above anyone talking to him. Let em get over their awe and calm down, and converse. Pretense wasn’t ever coming out of him.

Just listen to their first live album ‘No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith’. Every song is killer. It gives you energy for days. I know there were a lot of great bands at the time, but when it comes to metal there was metal before No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith and there’s metal after No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith. What I mean is…. after this album metal changed and just like every rock guitarist is indebted to Eddie van Halen, every metal band after this was indebted to Motörhead. Hell, you could even make the claim that the whole grunge scene could’ve never existed without Motörhead, because they were the only band that were able to unite metalheads and punks. Long story. I was there when it happened. In fact, the first ‘famous’ band I ever went to was Motörhead. Unfortunately, this was just after fast Eddie left the band. Still a great concert though. With Thin Lizzy’s Brian Robertson (or, as introduced by Lemmy, “the man with the fuckin’ haircut - he just cut his hair and painted it in all colours of the rainbow). 🧡😅

Saw them at Manchester Apollo and they were as loud as usual… after, we all piled into pub up the road, so everyone is getting drinks, jukebox playing, ears buzzing. Then the jukebox suddenly switched off and for about 5 seconds there was a deadly silence as we all stared at each other in panic, thinking our eardrums had been destroyed! The relief when the jukebox came back on! 😂
