This is what would be called, in mid-America, a porch session. When I was a child, in the evening, neighbors and families would gather on the porch, bring whatever instruments from guitars and harmonicas to fiddles and tambourines, and call out songs to be sung. Laughter, music, and good old fashion fun was on the menu. It built an unbelievable comradery and sense of community that left you with a positive outlook. I miss those times and this brings it back to me. Good stuff!

Austin went full-on gospel here, and the joke about the Oak Ridge guys jumping up is that a tenor really has to "squeeze" to reach that note. In a previous collaboration, they kidded him about the same thing.

I also heard that when they practiced this song, Austin didn't sing it that way, so they were surprised. 🙂 They look like proud uncles when he goes all out. I love it!

Austin Brown spent years in college (on a full musical scholarship) trying to nullify his south Georgia accent. When he joined Home Free they told him he could stop trying but he usually can do so. However, I think others who said that the 'spirit took him' must be right because his accent (I love accents of any kind - hey, I'm Canadian) really comes out.

Oak Ridge Boys : William Lee Golden - baritone (1965-87; 1995-) Duane Allen - lead (1966-) Richard Sterban - bass (1972-) *he was also a bass for Elvis Presley along with the great JD Sumner Joe Bonsall - tenor (1973-)

The Oak Ridge Boys have been a favorite of mine for about 50 years so they definitely have been around for a while. They started in the 1940's as The Oak Ridge Quartet but the current lineup of singers was formed in 1972. “Elvira” became the Oak Ridge Boys' first crossover hit, in 1981, when it climbed to #1 on the country chart and #5 on the pop chart. They are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame and they have picked up several awards from the Country Music Association. It's great seeing them sing this old old song with Home Free and Jeffrey East. Beautiful Star of Bethlehem has been around for about a hundred years and I first heard it when my father found it in our church songbook and learned it. I heard this every year at Christmas when I was growing up. Jeffrey East has a soft voice and he played the guitar without a pick which soften the sounds of the guitar to match his voice. The softness of his guitar and voice just makes it stand out all the more when the Oaks blast out their part of Star of Bethlehem. I love how well the voices of Home Free and the Oaks meld together and though I have heard this song by many different artists over the years, this particular version, in my opinion, is the very best.

Austin's father used to sing with a gospel group and Austin would travel with them. Apparently, he didn't practice it this way. The Oak Ridge Boys look like proud uncles when he puts it all out there. Home Free has talked before about how the Oak Ridge Boys lent them some country cred when they first came onto the larger scene.

Thank you for reacting. Richard Sterban from the Oaks was doing the lyrical bass line most perfectly, as Tim was doing the melodic bass line. What you are hearing is Richard's voice. Tim did not intrude on his "hero's" main vocal. ALL of them did wonderful !

Jeffrey East is my favourite singer-songwriter and he was Home Free's opening act during their 2018 European Tour. I saw them 6 times in 5 countries and Jeffrey won the hearts of the audience's everywhere. Such a talented and gifted guy who writes amazing songs. He's also extremely underrated and I would love it if you'd react to some of his songs to help him grow a bigger fan base. His fans are called EastBuddies and most of us are also Home Fries. Just pick a song, you really can't go wrong. Thanks for a great reaction!

The Oak Ridge Boys have been around for a long time. Their bass singer is the dark headed guy in front of Tim. His name is Richard Sturben. You should first do a reaction of the Oak Ridge Boys singing “ELVIRA” before doing the “ELVIRA” version with Home Free. Jeffery East is kinda new to the country his most popular song right now is “ People”. You should check that out as well. ♥️

Merry Christmas. The Oakridge Boys are more famous for their song "Elvira"...and they actually did a colab with Home Free on that very song. It will give you a better idea of the Oakridge Boys sound, and how they seem to compare with Home Free one on one...almost like a passing of the baton from old to younger. Richard Sterban is the bass for the Oakridge Boys. Another song of Home Free with incredible harmonies for the season is Auld Lang Syne (I could almost swear it sounded like bagpipes, lol)

This is truly a phenomenal performance. You'll not hear many live performances that have this level of chemistry or talent. Austin took people to church and they liked it! Including the people onstage with him. If you're interested in more of the beatboxing, Do You Hear What I Hear is appropriate for Christmas listening and Adam actually arranged that one, The Butts Remix, All About That Bass, The End of the Road, Ring of Fire featuring Avi Kaplan are a few good ones. There are also videos of Adam's beatboxing during live performances where it's just him doing his thing! You really can't go wrong with any of Home Free's music. Thank you for a great reaction, new subscriber here! ❤

This is about the tenth time I've listened to this tune and the one thing I didn't really notice the first few times was Adam's percussion. I'm not a drummer but I know a few and the only time you notice them is when the do something really special or if they mess up. Adam didn't add any fills here, he just let the guys sing and kept them on beat. If you want something that shows off Adam's talents more clearly, I'd recommend the Butts Remix or their collaboration with Peter Hollens on U2's Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

Don't know if you're aware but Austin's father was in a Southern gospel group & Austin traveled with him sometimes when he was a kid. This was part of the Christmas special that Home Free streamed earlier this month. During the special, I commented in the chat that I thought Austin was flashing back to his Southern gospel roots in that solo. All the HF guys were in the chat & Austin responded saying his daddy definitely taught him to sing like that. Richard Sterban (the Oaks bass) is no slouch when it comes to singing bass. I've been a fan of Oak Ridge Boys for years & always thought that Richard had one of the deepest voices I'd ever heard - of course, that was before I heard Tim! As several have mentioned, you may want to check out "Elvira". It was a big hit for the Oaks years ago & HF did a cover of it that included the Oak Ridge Boys.

Just subscribed. Please react to Home Free and Oak Ridge Boys singing Elvira. That was one of Oak Ridge Boys most popular songs back in 1981. About 5 years ago Home Free did their cover and Oak Ridge Boys joined them on it. Ever since Oak Ridge Boys have taken them under their wings. Also, suggest listen to them doing Child Go Where I Send Thee that they did with Kenny Rodgers. You should also react to Auld Lang Syne for New Years 💙

Merry Christmas (AGAIN) brother ! This is an example good old fashioned Southern Gospel. I grew up singing songs just like this at Flagler Street Baptist Church here in Miami, FLA....Austin gets that natural vibe to do songs like this because growing up his daddy was a country Gospel Quartet singer that traveled all over the country & sang every week in Churches ! Austin has roots for this kind of singing !!! Again Merry Christmas & Happy Boxing Day tomorrow

So wonderful to see the current gen with the OG's! I swear their voices haven't changed one bit, and of course the rest of the guys were fantastic. I love em all. If you do Elvira maybe consider doing both old Oak Ridge version and new since younger kids might not have heard it. and the versions are pretty different. Just a suggestion not imperative :) My favorites are the funny videos like Butts, and All About That Bass but I haven't found one I don't like.
