Crockett ended up as the research vessel Rachel Carson. It ended up in a museum but they couldn’t maintain it and it was scrapped.

Thanks for the information. I have a picture of the boat when it worked as an environmental protection vessel. Too bad it was scrapped. It was a fun model to build, many hours but overly difficult.

Rob the the Crockett was the only PG to go to Vietnam on her own bottom my ship USS Estes mothered the Crockett acrost continually to fill her with diesel fuel because her tanks did not have the capacity to make long cruises. She only had fuel for six days cruising on her diesels. And only 23 hours cruising on her gas turbine engine. It was 7 days to Hawaii and then 14 days to the Philippines. We cruised at 15 knots. She made it to Vietnam from the Philippines on her own fuel. Read up on the Asheville class they were the first to have gas turbines they could go from standing still the 40 knots in a minute. They took the other PG's to Nam aboard LSD's they removed the flight deck over the aft well and loaded the PG's by flooding the aft well and floated the PG's in just like they loaded there landing craft

where did you acquire the radar mast etc? i bought my dad this kit back in the 80s with the fittings set but dont recall it having that setup like you have.

I used white plastic tubing instead of the wood that came with the kit. You can custom build any feature you want with these models, that’s the creative part of the build I enjoy.
