Okay, I'm Dutch and used to the Dutch cycling infrastructure and what I see in the video would just scare me away from cycling. I take my bike and ride very safely here always and everywhere. Videos like this always make me happy that I live here (Amsterdam area). I hope that the cycling infrastructure in the US will also become as good as in the Netherlands. It's so much more relaxed and so much healthier to ride a bike. My wife and I use our car maybe 2 times a week. We do everything by bike as much as possible. That's possible here. Cycling is often much faster too.

My wife and I rode in Amsterdam, and along the Eurovelo 15 route. It was great!!! We live in SoCal, I've bicycled across the U.S. three times and it is dangerous. I stopped riding on the road unless I have to. There are very few separated bike lanes here because the automobile and oil companies choose the politicians, they are basically employees of large corporations.

When I first started riding electric bikes in Socal in 2018, people had no idea what I was riding. Then came our cargo bike with the kids, and people looked at us like we were arriving on a spaceship. Now these bikes are being ridden by a lot of people in the South Bay.

Yay for bike as minivan. I'm still the only regular Bike Mom, but there is an occasional Bike Dad who picks up his sons on his longtail ebike. And my hat is off to that dude. The road he has to take for about a half a mile is bananas. My bike evangelism is slow, but steady. My daughter had a Bike Birthday at our local park (bring your bike, scooter, or roller skates and we provided streamers, spoke beads, and stickers to decorate.) We used it as an opportunity to give people test rides on Clementine the GSD and my husband's [ebike from a manufacturer Chris does not sell.] The grownups who took test rides really enjoyed themselves, but most said some version of "If I had a safe route like you guys..." These four + turn lane roads with 45 mph speed limits are a real barrier to kid carrying.

Couldn’t agree more with the sentiment at the end that for some of us, comfort with road biking comes relatively easily, but for others less so - my wife is likewise significantly less comfortable on busy streets than I am. If we want people who aren’t hobby cyclists on a bike and not in car, we’ll need that infrastructure in place more uniformly. But until then, Arrow & I will take the lane on our Load 75. :)

Thoughts on 2:41. Riding around Orange County, I’ve had pretty good luck with the inductive loops on bikes. Every once in a while, you find one that just won’t trip. Also, some of them are hard to spot as the pavement is sometimes resurfaced after the loops are installed. One interesting thing I have noticed is that I have an easier time tripping the sensors the larger my rim size. The “bike” I had the easiest time with respect to the sensors was an aluminum frame unicycle with a 36” rim. It could trip sensors even my motorcycle couldn’t trigger.

Honestly speaking roads are very safe for everyone to use, the biggest problem is, guess what? automobiles, driven mostly by self priviledge drivers who thinks that roads are only meant for automobile use. American legacy, copy pasted all over the world. Cars are great but most of the times unecessary. Bike is best and very versatile. Kyle mentioned the recent CA laws to increase housing density, ADU's on suburban lots. These laws will increase density, and add more vehicles in suburban areas where roads are wider and speeds are higher. I agree that planning is getting progressive in California regarding bicycles, but limited budgets for infrastructure, and conservative politicians in SoCal will create a long slow drag on change. E.g. it took me 1.5 years to get 200 yards of bike lane painted near the I-5 in San Diego, CA. Emails, phone calls, finally an engineering study, approval, budget. The city painted it after I offered to go and paint it myself.

Bike infrastructure or lack thereof, is a huge barrier where I live... people will run you over. One of my neighbors was killed on his bike just a few months ago, hadn't even made it out of his own driveway, someone ran off the road hit him, and he died. Where I live in Rural America, we have lots of roads that don't even have bike lanes, certainly no protected ones... it's you vs the cars at 60+ MPH... you take a risk every time you go on the road. For me it's 4 miles to the nearest road with a bike lane, so every trip on the bike to not use the car is stressful. Not sure they will fix this anytime soon in Rural America. Kinda Sad, but just kinda how it is... Bikes are seen as toys out here, not transportation... that's what we have to fix. Once people see the device differently, the infrastructure will come along... but it's an uphill climb on a fat tire bike with a dead battery.

@@Propelbikes San Diego, CA here. Cyclist and ped deaths have increased in cities across the U.S. according to NHTSA and GSHA reports. Over 10% per year increases due to a few main reasons: increased miles driven due to better economy; distracted driving (cell phone); and lack of traffic enforcement (police only respond to emergencies in CA). San Diego is a joke, "Vision Zero" is a dream, best weather in the country, and the city has some of the worst bike infrastructure in the U.S. Since I retired five years ago, I've toured across the U.S. twice. Around here you can only occupy a lane when doing the speed limit (and ride 2 abreast) When folks just block the road here whether walking or riding in the center slowly in a “self centered, the world revolves around me “ kind of way it doesn’t do much for a positive interaction PR wise for bicycles. I noticed you seemed to be blocking a car behind you instead of allowing it to safely and respectfully pass you and the other guy was riding in the oncoming lane. (With his kids in tow) respect begets respect. If we want cars to be respectful of us we need to also be respectful. I’d like to see bicycles really work out. It’s scary riding here.

This was kind of ironic to watch. Living in St. George, Utah, we have the misfortune of being governed by backwards conservatives exacerbated by getting the California conservatives making it worse. So, rather than creating a more progressive (including bike-friendly) infrastructure as they lay out essentially new infrastructure because of the growth, they just lay down more and more just to accommodate the automobile, with very little thought to the up and coming modes of transportation. Very frustrating.

Daniel, that's me my family on the bike. I've ridden my bike in Los Angeles area for 20 years. I recognize the risk of riding with kids. I chose to keep my kids close to me and in back, rather than in a front loaded bakfiet or trailer towed behind the bike. The wheel base on the boost is a standard wheel base which makes it feel more like a standard bike, allowing for good steering and stopping. The Benno Boost is a well made bike that goes 28 mph (closer to speed of traffic) with hydraulic breaks. I wear bright colors and have 20+ years of experience dealing with LA drivers. Waiting for infrastructure in the US is a losing game. Standing in front of your microwave is hazardous. The finishes in your home have chemicals in them that are decreasing your testosterone. Is that hazardous?
