I have about 15 first year trees that are all from cuttings rooted in the winter (including a Moro de Caneva cutting I got from you). I also received a Bass’ Favorite in a 2 gallon tree pot. It had horrific FMV so I cut it in half and potted it up. It still has terrible FMV but it’s growing and fruiting like crazy just like all the other 15 cuttings. I foliar spray with an OMRI listed fish fertilizer every 4 days and it’s the best kept secret in gardening. I use it on all my plants and it’s a game changer. It doesn’t cause rust if done early in the morning and multiple studies have shown that plants uptake nutrients much better through the leaf. If your figs are in a pot then you are losing a lot of nutrients every time you water. No way around that. Foliar spraying is a great way to combat this and put the nutrients where the plant can use them instantly and efficiently.

Try some triple phosphate and lime on the stubborn to fruit varieties. Of course a soil test taken from each area will give the full picture. Worth a try. Good luck.

Hello Ross, what is the largest size pots your figs end up in? You always refer to pots in litres but we refer to the diameter of pots- I have to check my computer to convert the litre sizes. Fabulous video love your work .

Hey, what do you do with all of those in the winter? I am in St. Louis (Zone 6B) so I think your climate may be similar to mine. I heard that the cold winters will damage them. is that true?

Really enjoyed your informative walk n talks, I’ve learned a lot so thank you! I have a Brown Turkey fig and had very little fruit production, every time one starts to develop, it either stays the same size or drops but I think it’s down to feeding? Thanks again 😊

I am beginning to become concerned about becoming a crazy fig guy. This dude has hundreds of fig trees and has NO qualms about caring for them. I just wanted 2 or 3 or 4 fig varieties I can grow in pots. But the sheer number of varieties mandates that I have at least 75 to 100 different fig trees.

Lmao. I think 15 is a good number. 75 for most collectors is unreasonable.

I have exactly the same situation with the White Madeira #1. What coincidence. I'm in zone 9A. It's exactly same size as yours, and in a 2 gallon pot, with just 2 leaves on it. I tried all tricks to get it to grow to no avail. Every other fig tree responded to the same treatment except this one. I just don't get it.

Do you know anything about using silica either as a foliar spray or when watering the potted figs ? I read it helps potted plants fight diseases.

Maybe on that risolet (however it's spelled) you could girdle the main trunk next spring to try and cause a sucker that you can then make the main stem. Then air layer the other healthy growth. Just a thought.

Several years ago i took cuttings from I found a fig tree growing in the sand dunes on Long Beach Island ,N J. It was not bearing figs because too much shade from the scrub pines also growing in the sand. I successfully rooted it and harvested tasty figs.
