I shall try growing Tulip again next season. This time, away from the dogs.

Very informative video! appreciate all the info. Question, what if i think my tulips are rotting in the soil, should i harvest them? Or is it normal for them to turn red/purple? I've seen worms around them. Is there any way to prevent rot? Im new to flower gardening. Thank you

Botrytis is quite common in tulip bulbs. I would dig them up and discard. I find that dusting bulbs with garden sulfur while in storage helps but isn’t an assurance.

Hi randy very interested in your tulip experiment. I am a cut flower farmmer in second year have been involved with horticulture all my working life just a couple of points which you may find helpful suggestion before storing bulbs take one part milk and dilute with 20 parts water insert your bulbs for 15 minutes drain and allow to dry then store even if no fungus shewing absolute best fungicide. Would like to know from which patr of the planet do you reside ifarm in southland new zealand keep up the good work noel hohai gardens and orchard.

Hi Noel, That’s very insightful. In my mind, it’s counter intuitive, since I find milk easy to spoil and encourage mould. But I will definitely try that. So far, I’ve tried sprinkling gardening sulfur to prevent mould. We are in prairies, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦

What do you do with the smaller bulb that you separated from the big one. Do you plant them the following year

I just plant them in fall too, same as the big one. I find they either: - decompose (not survive) - grow a leaf (get bigger after one year) or - grow a small flower the first year
