Stephen Ritter, it just came to mind thinking of your Mom, a quote so fitting, by Erma Bombeck: "When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, I used everything you gave me." Your Mom used every bit of her talent to enrich lives of others, and we will be forever grateful of her contributions. . .

One of the last videos your Mom left was about Bucky and how she didn’t have time to grieve for him because of her own ill health. It was just one thing after another for her to keep it together just taking care herself. Bucky had taken care of her up until he died. She said she felt so lonely. We wanted to share in her grief, however it didn’t last long before she was gone herself. Thank you for sharing your personal stories of your mom and Bucky. We just are not ready to say goodby to them. Your Mom had a way of making things so personal and making us feel like family. It’s so hard to say goodby to them both. So thank you so much for keeping their memories alive.
I really don't understand how someone could dislike this, here is a good man, not afraid to put his heart on a sleeve, inviting us to share his memories of his family. I am thankful for the way you keep her legacy alive and manage to expand it. I do hope the haters and dislikers will find peace and happiness one day and won't have the need to do this anymore.

Hey Stephen, I just want to say thank you for letting us in to your private family world and for sharing Miss Phyllis and Mr. Bucky with us. This made me tear up at least two or three times. Even though I never knew them personally, I felt like I knew them from her channel. I miss listening to her calm and soothing voice and I miss seeing them together on camera...you could just tell that she adored him and how much he adored her. They were so blessed to find one another and I know that they are together again in heaven with our Lord and Savior. You are such a wonderful son and you just don’t know how much this means to so many of us. Many of us are going through a really hard time right now With losses of our own, stress, tragedies, just a lot of things and this is a way to connect and step outside of what maybe going on in our lives. Please don’t shut this channel down and please continue to share. I feel like I’ve gotten a better insight to Miss Phyllis and Mr. Bucky and how wonderful they really were even more so than we even knew. This channel showed up in my feed yesterday (onion pie) and from that video I subscribed. Then another video showed up this morning (something sweet cake). I watched the video and decided I'm going to make that cake for my grandbabies, this weekend. So happy about that recipe I decided I'd check out her other videos. After that cake video I said to myself, "This white lady can cook!" So, I clicked this video only to find out this dear, precious, loving, and sweet woman had crossed over into eternity. Damm! I'm so bummed I didn't get a chance to interact with her. I'm actually in tears. I just know, in my heart, she was a good person. I feel like she gave everyone the benefit of the doubt regardless their race, ethnicity, religion, etc. I feel that. I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm sending my love and condolences to you and your family. Peace be the journey, Ms. Phyllis. I don't know why I feel like she led me here.... Oh, my family is from Columbia, SC (via Barnwell/Blacksville, SC.) 💓

@Erika Davis, many of us are grieving Miss Phyllis and Mr. Bucky [ they passed within 6 months of each other]. I am African American, first generation born in NYC, Miss Phyllis' demeanor, simple recipes, and calm southern way of speaking reminded me of my parents and their family raised in Roanoke, Va and Fayetteville, NC. I watched her videos for years and I feel as though her and Mr. Bucky were my online family. Here is one of her earlier videos telling the beautiful story of her and Mr. Bucky's courtship, how Steven, Rene and Ernie were part of their special day. The video is poignant, I will post the link. Steven and his daughter Isabella have done a wonderful job of adding new videos to update us on his family as well.kzitem.info/news/bejne/rK58qqFohGNjd34

Ms. Phyllis was so loved and still is. She took the time out of her day to not only make us video tutorials very clear tutorials of her great cooking but she also took the time to answer our questions she read every one of them and there wasnt one time she didnt say thank you or would apokogize in the middle of her loving husband having passed unexpectedly and going through chemo at the same time she would apologize for not getting back to us to us....she never complained only looked for solutions she was sweet and the most positive upbeat loving person you ever hope you are fortunate enough to somehow enter your life...mine is forever changed by her. Phyllis Stokes was and always will be in my heart and my memory as the true lovely definition of a real lady and a southern belle. She was polite never swore never had a bad gossip or mean bone in her body she was a very classy sweet wonderful woman who loved her family deeply. Very intelligent very very interesting. Just lovely. She wrote books too. Im so glad she led you to her channel. Check out her recipe for rolls oh my gosh...so good,,well smothered pork chops too well there really isnt any recipe better than the next of hers because Ms Phyll could cook fire! You could give her a stone and she would bring you back a 6 course gourmet meal and dessert! She was a God fearing woman and she was always into learning something new. Very bright and her home was beautiful check out her house tour...so charming...

I read a couple of your mom's books and I recall her talking about her internal conflict over marrying Bucky and not wanting to bring someone into the family if he'd end up not sticking around. She was scared of the kids and herself getting hurt if that happened. But that's when he reassured her, and she prayed on it, and knew God would be the center of their relationship and that Bucky was sent to her by God. It's clear they kept the light of God front and center in their relationship. She said when she knew this was it was for real the day after the wedding when Bucky asked her to sit at the hotel room table and have devotions with him and he told her this was how he wanted to start every morning with her.

On the contents of your gift bag...:my dad was born in 1918 and my mom in 30. Back then, to get an orange in your stocking was a big deal because, citrus was not everywhere. It’s not like today or back in the 1970s when there were big supply chains and distribution. Anyway, also the nuts in the stocking were also a big deal so my stockings always included citrus and nuts. It’s really sweet when you think of how difficult it must have been for their parents to get those for them and what a treat it was to receive and it was a special memory and so when they had children, they wanted to pass on what was special from their childhood. I know your mom and Mr. B were born later than mine but it was not that different during WWII and the following years. It’s a neat tradition and knowing the significance makes it more meaningful. It doesn’t have to stop with you. You can share it with your children.😝🌲

You are a good son. I do so enjoy the stories. Your Mom was a good storyteller too. I bet you got that from her. Thank you for sharing. I hope it helps you walk through your grieving process. Kathy Larrabee

Oranges, nuts and candy that's what we got as kids. It wasn't Christmas without it. We never got fruit and nuts at any other time of the year.

I remember our decorations for the tree were cranberries strung by thread and needle, popcorn garlands, color paper chains and aluminum foil stars.

I dearly loved your mom. She and I cook so much alike and her cleanliness was above par. Being a retired RN this is something I look for when watching videos about cooking. She and Mr Bucky are sorely missed by all that love her. My condolences to you Stephen and Earnie. May God Bless you to keep this channel going for her.

Thank you for these videos. I sure do miss seeing your Mom and Mr Bucky. I am a 68 year old runner who is always on a diet, but I loved your Moms cooking videos. I enjoyed her talking and her life with Mr Bucky. Hard to believe you can become so attached to someone you have never met. What fine people. Even though I couldn't eat all the rich food, I sure did enjoy watching her cook it. Everytime I go by a Hardees I think of Mr Bucky. Best wishes in your future.

You are so much your Mother’s son. You favor her in lots of ways. I to was a single parent with a son, so I know where you are coming from in your memory stories. I’ve only been YouTubing since 2019, which I also was battling cancer. And Phyllis’ channel was the channel that I watched most. Because I remember the foods she cooked, and such an easy and kind lady. I will be 68 in March and also a teacher in years gone by, but she taught me so much just watching her channel. Love her! ❤️❤️

Steve, You commented on Pete Lawson's video on Sunday. Someone recognized you and replied. It was a very warm, brief conversation, but I got from it that your mother was a very special person. I went to the channel , met her, watched her decline and pass on. Through all of that she was so strong. This video was a very, very nice tribute. Thank you for posting this.

It takes a special person to come in to a family with teenagers! For you to speak so fondly of him is very heart warming❤️

Kind men are treasures, Stephen. I sense you are a kind man. EDIT: I grew up in the Lutheran Church. On Christmas Eve at service we’d each get a bag of peanuts in the shell, an orange, and hard candy. My parents divorced when I was 10. The year was 1956. This was a very touching video. I’m glad you’re documenting the lives of two very fine people. Honestly, these videos are very compelling! Thankful from Iowa, ~ Lori ~

Our family always followed the old tradition of receiving a stocking which had an orange (in the toe) usually an apple, an assortment of nuts in the shell, candy canes, and chocolate coins. I've done some reading and found this to be a carry-over from the story of St. Nicholas leaving balls of gold, coins, and special treats in stockings for the children on Christmas. It sounds like Bucky also grew up with this tradition and passed it on to y'all in his own way.
