Side note: the repair technician that came out suggested your video because I could not afford the cost of him dismantling the unit, cleaning it then reassembing it. He said it was easy to clean and told me to blow through the thermal coupling. He shut off the gas for me, unplugged what needed to be unplugged and directed me to your video. He said he wouldn't charge me for the service call, which was on a Saturday. Just pointing out there are still good people out there that are willing to help those who can't afford to hire someone.

College girl here & I just had our maintenance guy stop by a day or so ago to relight the pilot. Dang thing went out again and was afraid I’d have to call him out again. Thanks to the breakdown of the parts in this video, I figured out which part was actually releasing the gas and in charge of igniting the pilot. I got it to the light on my first try! Thank so much!

Discovered late at night that our hot water tank was not heating. I followed all the directions on the tank with no luck so I resigned to let my hubby know so he wouldn’t be surprised in the morning when he showered and to call the technician in the AM. Being the stubborn person that I am, I decided to check KZitem and found this video which gave better details about lighting the pilot light and voilà, it lit. Thank you, thank you, thank you. No technician needed and I get hot water to shower with. As a woman, this is somewhat empowering for me.

you saved me with the waiting 10 minutes thing! I didn't see a spark so I though I had another issues entirely. You have to have it on OFF and wait 10 Minutes and it still took a good 30 seconds or so of clicking the ignitor before it lit.

This video got me back up and running !! I couldn’t afford the repair of whatever the water heater company said so we watched this video . We weren’t letting the system reset long enough not getting our burner to inginite . After the 10 minutes we followed each step and it went on immediately 🎉 hot water back on instead of warm showers . Note * we did turn down the temperature of water to be less hot if in the case it was shutting down because of temperature , great tip !!

At about 3:38 you said "you may have to click it several times...." was exactly what I needed to hear!!! This is an awesome video. Thank you sooooo much! FYI for anyone trying to do this, the sight glass on our hot water heater does not look directly at the pilot light, I had to move my head to the right to see the pilot light.

Excellent video, power outage took out my water heater's pilot somehow, watched other videos but this one is superior for several reasons: 1) Explains where to look to see the pilot light and the sparker, 2) explains all the components of the system using CORRECT terminology, 3) No beating around the bush with a 4 minute lead up. Bonus: explains the tiny reset switch, but doesn't go into much detail - i'd like to know more about what the switch looks like/feels like if it is not 'on' or needs to be pressed.

Very informative video, highly recommended. Lost power off an on for about 2 hours yesterday afternoon. Seemed like with the heavy rain and wind we had, somehow the pilot went out. Had to do this process twice, but finally got it up and running. Big tank, so taking some time of course to heat back up. Had a bit of worry with some orange flame at the startup, but posts on reddit seems to state that is normal after being so cold for a while. shut off like normal once heated up and when restarted, back to a blue flame. all seems well. probably saved a good bit on a service call, that I could do with this very informative guide. Much appropriated, would highly recommend.

Really useful. My water heater is ancient and the pilot is lit with a match or similar ignition source. I would advise everyone with a gas water heater to buy a spare thermopile. They are available at any hardware or home store. When they do fail it will most likely be on a holiday, during a storm, etc. It's just one of those laws of the universe. Replacing it takes only a few minutes. And don't forget to check the TPR valve at least once a year but do it when the stores are open in case you have to replace it...also very easy.
@j.michaeljefferson60
2 жыл бұрын
If you have an older water heater you most likely will have a thermocouple instead of a thermopile, they're both to make sure you have a pilot that's lite and not letting gas come in the house. ,
@wholeNwon

@@j.michaeljefferson60 That's correct, I do. I used the same term as the poster so as not to add a confusing term. But the homeowner must match the device he wants to replace since they are not, to the best of my knowledge, ever interchangeable. Thank you. Your comment will help to prevent viewers from making that mistake.
