What I believe to be the fifth owner of the old Northern Pacific Woodinville Sub has finally and unfortunately ceased operations. The line was built in 1888, by the Seattle, Lake Shore & Eastern Railroad and handed to the Northern Pacific in 1902. It passed through Burlington Northern and BNSF but by then it was a branchline. The line also hosted the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train for some years. In 2007, the line began operation under Eastside Freight Railroad, one of three family railroads, the other two being Ballard Terminal, and Meeker Southern, both still in operation. Eastside Freight operated from Woodinville, WA to an interchange with BNSF in Snohomish, WA, serving industries in Maltby and Woodinville. 13 years later, the railroad is ceasing service. The future of the right of way is uncertain but there is pressure to make the line into a bike trail. Don't know much from there though. The railroad rostered EFRX 109(now lettered MSN for Meeker Southern), and a former Northern Pacific caboose, which is up for sale. It's unfortunate that my chance to chase this railroad would be the last run, but I'm happy I got the opportunity. Enjoy!
