Howdy Mr. 731... Yeah, another Gem I dug up. I gots ta have my background videos running while I'm finish-sanding (1500grit now) my latest project. That Kreg rip cut thingy ma bob....Yeah that's the one I got several months ago. I don't see how you managed to use it. I spent HOURS trying to get the slop out of it to no avail. It wasn't accurate at all. I followed all directions etc etc. Worst tool I've ever purchased!! Wish I could send it back to Kreg. I reverted back to old school...clamp down a level to use as an edge guide. Takes a few minutes to set up but gives me very accurate straight cuts. Because of my waste of money on the Kreg rip cut jig, I said NOPE to the $90 Accu-cut track saw jig.....and because of my bad experience with that jig...I've pretty much swore off ALL track saw stuff. I like the floating shelf though. My daughter wants floating shelves for her room but these would be attached to just a single wall, not 3. I understand the concept of how they are done....But I can't seem to wrap my head around how to do a 3' to 4' floating shelf that's 10"+ wide. It just seems to me that it would sag. Perhaps you could do a video on that??

I have the same tiny walkthrough laundry room and looked up your video just after i bought all the supplies. It's just the same as I'm planning but now I feel a bit more comfortable doing it, and how to make it nicer and more secure. Thank you!

Are these "floating" shelves? I'm not sure what the definition is but I thought floating shelves had a separate bracket/support and a slide on "cover".

"Floating" shelves can be several types. But typically they are similar to this style you see in the video where there are no brackets hanging down.

Thinking of doing something like this but with 2x12s for the shelving and 2x4s or 2x2’s for the bracing. U think bracing of this style would hold a heavy 2x12?

Hey, how's it going? Like your content. Quick question. What's the height from the floor to the top shelf? It seems like it would be quite a reach for your wife or even my wife. Does or is she gonna use a grabber of something?. Just asking. I thought about doing something like this to our Laundry room. Let me know. Thanks
@731Woodworks

Thanks! Yeah, it's quite tall. It is about 7 feet from the floor. We have a small step ladder we use to get up there when needed. We use that area to store items we don't use that much.

So I’m curious, did you start out replicating other woodworking ideas and then start making your own projects? How do you even know where to begin when you decide to start to design a project? Like how it will hold up and such?
@731Woodworks
4 жыл бұрын
That is how I started. I built a set of Jay Bates' outdoor arm chairs and just kept building things after that. As far as how it will hold up, you should get a pretty good idea if something is sturdy enough or not after you get it built. If it needs more bracing or something, that could be added later. Hope that helps.

The Kreg K4 and K5 is a big upgrade from the R3 just in terms of convenience. And you can drill holes faster. I am happy that I upgraded from the R3 to the K5. I still use my R3 occasionally for tight spots the K5 can't get into.
