LOL....rebuilding/re-using decent bearings with steel wool, (old greaser school). Here's another old greaser trick that was actually well known back in the day by machinist. Polish bearings with machinist oil and old newspaper.

Looking at the bottom end of this engine block, it looks strong as hell. No wonder these are used for hotrods, I bet you can boost the shit out these engines and get some major league power.

@@onewhocollects6781 thanks i got them in the mail now. also a rear main seal. the rods were .003 for wear so i'm installing new rod bearings. i took the engine out in pcs. but i think i will install it completely. did not have the hood off and i have an overhead hoist. do you happen to know if the 2014 and newer took out the oil sprayer pointing up to the pistons? my rings were stuck in the compressed state also. thanks for the great presentation.

Im replacing my pistons on 2.2 ecotec. After i replace the pistons. How can you tell the bottom half engine position of compression and exhaust strokes if every 360 degrees cylinder 1 and 4 are at top dead center? I know timing is done with the cam sprockets being at 10 and 2, but what about the pistons being at top dead center at 1 and 4? Im a little confused on that.
@onewhocollects6781

The only thing that determines which cylinder is on which stroke is the camsafts. If the cylinder head is off, there is no difference between 1 and 4. Yes they both hit TDC at the same time. The same thing with 2 & 3. As long as the timing marks are properly aligned when you install the chain, it will run. Hope that helps.

So I finished my ecotec overhaul. It runs great. I have put 400 miles on it. I have noticed it is burning a little bit of oil. I installed the pistons top rings to 14k and made sure they were installed correctly. I am noticing I am getting alot of blow by now when I run the engine at idle and take off the oil cap. I put a piece of paper over it and it blows excessively. It wasn't doing this before I changed out the pistons and rings. Is this normal for an ecotec engine? What kind of problems can this cause.

Why didn't you use gloves? So I'm still learning, but most garage shops recommend that people use gloves, so they don't mix skin oils with lubricant oils, for the skin oils work against the lubricant oils and cause a future issue.
