One of the real pioneers of the modern game during the 1960's and 70's. Some player back in the day. Proper sportsman. RIP Eddie.

Eddie didn't have the talent of today's top rank but he was hard to beat in his day. The thing was that snooker in those days was much more about playing the man, and that's where the character of the players really counted. Eddie was great for television because he was the dogged fighter who wouldn't give up, and the man who the flair players had to overcome. Often he would get the better of them. Tough as he was though, he always looked immaculate and came across as a true sportsman and gentleman. There was real drama on the table in those days and Eddie was in some great matches.

Going for a pink rather than a black makes a maximum break not on. He hit the missed red too hard, but he had Spencer cooked by then. Spencer deftly cleaned up the colors, if I remember correctly, which a world class player might do, less the cat and mouse and being left a good lie

Cant be 1973, David Icke on the interview clip at the beginning was 21 yrs old at the time and playing football (goalkeeper) for Hereford United, he was forced to retire shortly after wards with artritis in both knees, that when he went to work for the BBC later on covering such sports as snooker.
