Built a shelter/fort in the woods, threw some rocks in the lake, identified different animal and plant species, and had them land nav us back to the truck. The sense of real world accomplishment is all over their face’s. They stand a little taller, walk a little straighter, and constantly ask to go again. A good follow-up to yesterday's chat, Pat Mac. Thank you. I'd say the root of all this is values -- what values are in your head, in your life as you go about your day? What values do you live by? If you have responsibilities for others, do you live your values demonstrably for them? Are you a "walk the talk" guy? Or do you "go along to get along"? Or maybe, do you see that it might be a tightrope walk between the two, sometimes? And in those moments, what do you do? How do you decide what to do? The qualitiy of the education you provide to others (generic "you" here) depends heavily on the values you possess and demonstrate. Do you teach pursuit of knowledge? Pursuit of truth? Protection of the less powerful? Respecting those who are wiser and more experienced? Honoring those who have demonstrated values worth honoring, over time? Do you encourage folks who may see you as "teacher" to become good humans, merely by the way you talk about subjects or demonstrate methods for doing something? Back to today's chat -- yes, see things as a child. My favorite philosophy prof in college started his courses on the first day by saying, "philosophy is seeing the world with the eyes of a child, full of wonder, always asking why?" Then he would look at the class with a grin, and say, louder -- "Why? WHY? WHY?!!!" Then he said -- be like that child. Ask why. Be curious about the world around you.

To those two parents no electronics while traveling. Puzzles word games. Fantastic Job 👍. I know someone who's kid is 5 or 6yr old. Has this phone for games in his hand 25hr a day. Let's just say the kid eats with one hand and phone with game in other hand or both. It takes him so long to eat a meal. Plus doesn't eat properly not even close.

Mac is one of, if not the *only* internet figure I look up to that I can actually share with my left and right leaning friends alike. And Mac doesn't turn either one of those groups into the other: he teaches us how to get back in touch with a piece of our humanity that has been lost to modern society. Something that literally everyone these days needs. It's a universally applicable message.

@theDemong0d

Peterson has become a little more divisive and polarized these days, in his early days of fame he was much more neutral. It would be a fun conversation for sure but they aren't really on the same path, and I don't want to see Mac become part of the modern collective of conservative talking heads, I want him to keep spreading his universal message and leading by example as he already does so well. Too easy to get mired in identity politics and culture war which is ultimately a big waste of time and also loses you credibility with many of the people who need to hear this message the most.
@Khorton014
Жыл бұрын
@@theDemong0d a few points in response: First, I think DJP and Pat’s messages are both neutral and universal. I’d even argue that Pat’s is more conservative solely based on his obvious 2A stance. Second, I think any and all public figures fall victim to their viewership bracketing them into whatever category they identify with as a way to boost their own ego. DJP may seem right wing in today’s society, but aligns more with classic liberalism. The right may want to draft him like in Dave Chappelle’s Racial Draft skit, but he doesn’t really belong there. Third I think that Pat’s and DJP’s messages reach the same audience with the same ethos. IE clean your room, radical personal accountability, traditional well established gender roles, basic dude stuff, all meant to improve society by elevating young men into the roles men take on in a stable, hospitable, civilized world. Fourth I do think they probably differ in their religious views. While I have no reason to know what Pat believes or does not believe, DJP does speak a great deal on religion. But as a clinical psychologist and psychology professor whose entire body of work focuses on the human condition, religion plays a vital role in understanding the how and why we do what we do. And finally I don’t think you’ll ever have to worry about Pat becoming a talking head. He seems content changing the world one basic dude stuff video at a time. Which, I agree, is right where he is making the biggest impact.

Overall i agree. I'm not 100% on board with no tech. Everything in life needs a balance and technology is part of life. Some games do spark creativity and education. I equally think it's ok to use a little baby talk, as long as it's balanced out with normal speak. A 3 year old is a little human, but not an adult. Again, balance is key.
