As a Brazilian living in southeast Brazil, I gotta say that education in the country changes from state to state, and most of the public schools have horrible methods and corruption is high. The state ranked with the best public education was, unironically, Rio de Janeiro, which is something strange considering all the problems there is with in the public system in the country as a whole, until you realise that most of the school teachers in Rio de Janeiro aren't paid by politicians or get their concurso test from politicians that paid them to go there, thanks to the Brizola regional government, which valued meritocracy more so than the others. If you guys are planning to raise a children in some city in Brazil, homeschooling or private schools are the way to go, even the highest HDI cities have horrible and corrupt education systems, only Rio de Janeiro and maybe Paraíba values the public education, a bunch of Brazilians intellectuals are from there, while the ones from my state are considered joke journalists. Anyway, a great video as always! I hope your mother can teach something to our education secretaries

Thanks for the feedback and insight on this subject. As a long term “visitor” here in Brazil I try not to be too subjective in my videos.

As a comparison, Mexico had a similar problem where the funds the schools were allocated for maintenance disappeared for decades due to corruption. Thankfully, the current president of Mexico started giving the parent association of each school the funds meant for maintenance, and finally, the schools all across Mexico are being maintained adequately. I hope Brazil can find a way around corruption.

Excellent video. I wish you all the best in Brazil, which is an amazing country. I was born in Rio, l live in Cascais/Portugal now. Although I love Cascais, my dream is to move to Natal/Rio Grande do Norte, where my father was born. I would like to live in Genipabu, 20 minutes away from Natal, with beautiful dunes, laggons and beaches.
