I'm sure St Thomas Aquinas would not approve of Thelonius Monk. Or jazz in general. Most classical music orders spontaneous improvisation. Thus, creativity becomes an intellectual activity and is analogous to God's creativity. Jazz eschews this conscious mediation and easily becomes indulgent and body-centred. I'm a pianist and composer and left jazz behind many years ago. You can not separate the decadent conotations completely from the musical aesthetic. It was a liberating experience for me.

Improvisation is an intellectual activity - just like prudence! Intuition is not sub-intellectual or sub-conscious (and even aside from that, there is much intellectual discipline in the preparation for improvisation). The present moment is where God lives. Bach was more famous as an improviser than as a composer in his day. Many good things are easily abused, but abusus not tollit usum.

So true! St. Thomas would more likely approve of MY taste in music (techno MIDI tracks played in custom Doom levels)

Rock and roll, rock, hard rock, metal and rap totally obscured jazz

Classic jazz is intellectual music. Not much of jazz is accessible to contemporary listeners

I love music, have mad respect for Jazz , respect for Dr EMichael Jones notwithstanding; his take on Classical, the advent of dissonance, 12 tone scales. (The intro music to your channel is amazing)
