I think Eheim should pay you for putting up such a comprehensive how to video. Calling their instruction manual hopeless is actually an understatement. I would have loved to see you actually put this in the aquarium.

I bought a 2213 classic today. Exactly the same setting up as this one. Instructions were absolute rubbish but luckily I figured it out with help of youtube video's like this. Now its in the tank running and I can see its a very good filter. Runs very quiet and has cleared up the tank very well. Worth the money and effort. Ill be buying another one for my other tank actually. Im only going to consider external canister filters from now on. Yes I like this product.

A little trick as an additional info: As mentioned in the video, the hose is quite stiff and it is difficult to attach to the tip of plastic tube. Do not force it or you may damage it. Instead take a lovely mug, fill it with boiling water. Dip the end of the hose into the water for a few seconds and then try connecting it with the plastic tube. You will see it is now much easier now...

+Paul Mann - these instruction manuals are completely useless. They are more "safety instructions" to cover the companies from law suits than to actually help you set it up. The company does not even have its own professionally made videos for customers. This is true not just about Eheim but for any damn gadget out there in the market. They should stop calling them "instruction manual".

Have just aquired a 2nd hand marine reef tank that has the 2215 filter and no instructions. Thanks for taking the time to make the video...now I know how it works...now to work out how often to clean it out. Does this filter polish the water as I have noticed lots of very fine matter in the tank making it look like its too salty if you know what I mean. Salt levels are being taken care of....it just looks like 1000's of wee sparkly bits.

Thank you this is the first time I have understood because you did not rush through the descriptions. I was gifted my E2213 canister, so there was virtually no instructions available to me. Thanks much! Been looking into one of these same filters for a 56 gallon freshwater aquarium. You didn't mention how many gallons your tank is, will the 2215 work good on a 56 gallon? I've heard the rule of thumb is 4-5 times the tank size filtration per hour, so I thought maybe the 2217?

Hi! This is very helpful. I am going crazy trying to set up! What about the different tube diameters? Should larger diameter be intake or out? And I do not have a hard elbow. I am sad that instructions for such a highly rated filter are so poor.

+Jean Balfour - I don't know if it is too late to reply. The larger tube goes into the bottom inlet of the filter (shaped like a J). The smaller pipe is for the top of the filter from where water comes out. In fact you can not fit one into the other.

Quite good video but as usual on youtube, the text is all wrong. I've just bought one of these pumps and they now have the bend included in the plastic pipe. Unfortunately it didn't included a self primer so I had to suck the water through and then put the outlet tube on while keeping it under water. Agree that the instructions that came with it are very poor. Had difficulty twisting the last outlet piece to get water to go into the water instead of against the side of the tank.
