This video is not a substitute of the manual, read it carefully since I cut various points such like backplate thermal pad placing and the difference in size of the thermal pads. Here the link of the manual: www.ekwb.com/shop/EK-IM/EK-IM-3831109833391.pdf

You want to follow the EK instructions on the application of thermal pads not the old cooler. EK might needs pads in more areas than the old cooler. You also don't want to manually spread the thermal paste. This can cause air bubbles to get trapped in the thermal paste when the water block clamps down on it. You want do to lines and/or dots. So when you put on the water block the paste spreads and pushes out air bubbles.

As for the thermal paste application. There is a different answer or "technique" or not, from every tech. Some spread, some dot, some line. It all comes down to what has given one the most consistency. For this guy, he spreads and hasn't had any issues, or he would have changed his strategy.

Thank you for making this video. I am seriously considering some sort of a cooling solution. Maybe just getting rid of the thermal pads going to thermal paste. Right now it seems like I have problems if I want to play games in 4K... The FPS will jump up-and-down and it'll get hot and it'll thermal throttle. it'll do for 1440p @120fps But the junction temperature will creep close to a 100 and that makes me nervous.

I'd like to this to my 6900xt as the temps aren't ideal for me. Besides the water block, what else do you need to water cool the GPU? I've never water-cooled anything before and I can't find anything on how to set it up.
@HardwareNumb3rs

Well, you need also a radiator, a pump and a reservoir, and isn’t cheap, but on the bright side you can also put a waterblock on your cpu and have a much cooler and quieter system

@@HardwareNumb3rs Yeah, not cheap but worth it. When you spend $1K on a GPU, you should get the most out of it. As for the CPU, it's just the 5600x (For now) and I'm using an AIO for it. Anyway, thank you. I'll look into it.

Ciao!
