I think you put it best when you said they were designed and work perfectly for an engine that is governed at a specific rpm.

You explain things very well. I'm not good at explaining but I do know I've seen several scooters with more issues with those vacuum pumps. If it's not gravity fed then it's always having fuel delivery issues.

Great video.. My old honda helix used a electric pump..what some people forget to understand is where the gas tank location plays a part as well trying to pull fuel from under the engine is hard.. I believe even the honda ruckus runs a electric pump as well because of the location. Great info 👍

I'm suspecting the same issue with my 72cc build. After jetting it and taking it for a ride, I manage to get it up to 50 mph (Probably more around 45 but didn't have my gps speedo app on) then it started dropping back down to 40. When I turn off and got back on the throttle the acceleration was slower than when I first took off. But then when I stopped for a moment then proceeded, I was back to normal acceleration. Considering finding a electric pump solution or just go full gravity feed with a shut off valve.

You couldn’t be more right. I have seen this with my own eyes. However, I did one better after having my electric fuel pump leave me stranded. I installed a Y and a second line which I can switch at the fuel filter that goes to a vacuum pump. Hopefully I will not have another electric fuel pump failure but if I do I’m ready.

Would love to see your take on it. I just used a brass valve and a Y at the tank. Then I used a valve on the vacuum line so the pump doesn’t actuate all the time. I simply swap over the line going to the inlet of the filter unplug the electric and valve in the vacuum.

@wesmadebuilds681

@@GhettoWrench the valve is right after the tank, but that is just so I don’t make a mess if I want to work on something later on. The other valve is on the pulse line so the fuel pump is working all the time and all worn out. I just go into a Y right after the tank. One side goes to electric and other pulse. The discharge is what I swap around as needed. You could get fancy with valves but I already had a lot in the system.

I have the GenV same one you have. Just put 100 miles on it. Today I took it for a couple miles at 55mph n it started slowing down then I slowed down n it was fine. 🤔 I'm putting uni filter on next week and ordered jets too. Should I increase a jet by 2? Also di you recommend A china electric fuel pump for genV from Amazon as an upgrade? Or is vacuum fine? Looks like you lean electric but you spoke highly of vacuum I'm 😕confused😮.
@GhettoWrench
3 ай бұрын
@xDragonHawk 55mph... guessing that is a 150? On a long high speed run you are making zero vacuum and will run out of gas. The bike bogs down and start dying until you close the throttle some and make vacuum. Vacuum is fine for the city but you live in rural area and hold the throttle open long periods or have a 50 and always hold the throttle you need an electric pump to keep up. Or you can just understand the vacuum weakness and just close the throttle to fill the carb again then go again.

I have a whole drawer full of wrong size fuel lines. LOL. The one from the gas tank and the one on the fuel pump are bigger than the one on the Carburetor. I just got 5mm line from China so no idea what size it is in inches, but it seem to fit everything good. I think it is between 1/4 and 3/16... but closer to 3/16 (4.7mm)

Im getting ready to do start and stop standalone switch's is it simple to wire them up?
@GhettoWrench
6 ай бұрын
Easy to wire. If you have a Gen 1 or 4 you may need to bring the 12v DC wire to the back where pump is from the front. But put your switch inline on that wire. If you have Gen 5 you will have a 12v DC wire in back already. I have a video showing wiring the Gen 4 and a Gen 5. The Gen 5 I use a rolling wrench pump, but same wires will work.

@tedowen409 is it just 4 wires? 2 for the kill switch and 2 for start button
@GhettoWrench
6 ай бұрын
@michaelhatala no. Wore the pump. 2 wires.. a ground and 12v hot. The on Off switch is ONLY part of that hot 12v wire. Imaging just cutting the 12v wire and putting the switch on the 2 cut ends you made. You will have to run that wire from the source to where you want the switch then back to where you mount the pump.

I'm legitimate planning to set up a high pressure boost regulated fuel system on one of these because they're such a cheap engine test platform. I can go get a trash moped for like $100. Someone set up electric boost with an EGO leaf blower or an AMR300 already...

Not sure if it exactly applies, but I picked up a cheap electric fuel pump and have been trying to apply it to my 150(the pump is just on when the key is on). It feeds fast enough for sure, but this carb sat a season so I've been having problems idling it. It runs at a so high rpm that the rear wheel engages at all times. 😵💫 The pump seems to be working choice tho.
@Pipeargill

@Hackxcore If you don't have one already, you will probably need a regulator of some kind to regulate the pressure down to a few PSI. There are regulators that you simply set with a dial, or there are boost reference regulators that adjust the pressure based on how much boost pressure is entering the intake/carb. This is the way to set up a blow thru carburetor with a turbo or whatever so that the carb gets a few more PSI of fuel than the overall air pressure entering the intake.
@Pipeargill

@tedowen409 I'd love to see you do a video on regulators. Show you overkill I've got a $45 amazon one in mind currently, but I haven't investigated if it would work yet. "Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator 8AN Gauge EFI Bypass Kit Boost Reference - 1:1 4-65 PSI Silver+Black"

@Hackxcore when it sits with gas in the carb the pilot jet gums up. You just need to clean that. You must see daylight through the hole when holding it up to the sky or it is not clean enough. Have to have a pretty small needle to clean them out usually
