Fantastic interview, Lee! Thanks a lot! 😃 I would say that ELRS is already the best radio link out there. And they keep making it better and better! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Excellent that existing ELRS SPI users won’t be left behind 🙂 we just need very, very basic functionality really for whoops on ELRS.

I really wish the devs would reconsider their position on SBUS output because in addition to FPV drones I fly planes and helicopters with flight controllers that have SBUS ports available. Right now I am using ELRS for my quads and DSMX for my other stuff and it would be great to have ELRS on everything so I could use my ELRS radio on all of them without an external module which I hate. When I was on crossfire I could use it for everything.

I have to agree. Having SBUS would make it incredibly useful for older systems...

@@Painless360 Also would make much easier to create a relay using a standard receiver thus allowing the elsr module to stay in a pole or even tracker giving an even better range and letting the pilot to be more comfortable for long range flights.

On airplanes you should always run a throttle disable/cut anyways. So after setting up your throttle channel overrides in special functions you can assign whatever switch you used for that to channel 5 as well to satisfy the arm channel requirement.

Does Ch5 need to be high the whole flight to benefit from disabeling bnding and enabeling active link management, or just blip it up once to activate its features and use the channel to drive a servo for the rest of the flight?

so on the compatibility with SPI receivers and backwards compatibility between 3.0.x TXs and 2.x RXs, is that something coming in a future release candidate? The release notes for 3.0RC1 still have SPI receivers running 2.x explicitly excluded and state that backwards compatibility will not exist between 3.0 and 2.x versions. I am really hoping they reassessed this and decided to add backwards compatibility because it is the only thing holding me back from flashing my fleet over to 3.0 at the moment! Thank you so much for the video and terrific insight on the questions addressed here!

Can u just stick to 2.0 and not update? I just got my setup working with the normal rx on 2.0 and i still have a version 1.0 spi that i cant figure out how to update
@BaconNinjaFPV

@@verofpv6152 I think that most of us with SPI based receivers are going to hold onto 2.X for as long as we can so that our quads will continue to work. I doubt we will really have to get off of the 2.X version until they are already working on RCs for 4.X. On your 1.X SPI, you will need to flash Betaflight 4.3 onto it which has the 2.X ELRS code baked in for your receiver.

Thanks for asking my question about SPI/CAN. So if I understand the answer, this might work on an H7 then? If the protocol has already been included in ArduPilot for the baked in SPI like the SPRacing boards, perhaps it would not be too difficult to make it possible to have an H7 communicate with an external receiver using SPI?

This is one of the trickier parts of ExpressLRS that the major version of the radio and receiver need to be the same. You can connect via WiFi to the receiver and look at the FW version on the webpage. See my top tips video for ELRS for more of the basics. Best of luck!

May I ask you? Could you measure and confirm? Do the 1.0 and 2.0 firmware versions really give 10mW output from the transmitter (or much more)? And 25mW=25mW..100mW=100mW I just don't have a power meter available. Unfortunately no one has verified this on the internet.

Yes they do output exactly what the power setting says regardless of firmware version. There may be some slight variations but overall they're outputting what they're asked to.
