I'm interested to hear what you were trying to achieve with that pass and how this parcel performed this year (2019) given how dry it was so late into the year, at least where we are it was. @@elyfarmsnd so just making some basic assumptions and calculations, if you're running 10 hour days at 40 feet per swath, that's an acre every 2 minutes at 6.2 miles per hour, but that's not allowing for fuel stops or maintenance time, so 6.5 to 7mph might be more realistic, especially watching that disk make the dirt fly. Please accept my appreciation and open admiration of your hard work.

With tracks? CAT came out with rubber tracks for field use well before anyone. 4 tracks are the logical outcome, and New Holland has the best 4 track design currently. Also, I don't think you're precious tracked tractors are going to age well, eventually they will be 30 years old with worn out carriages and will just sit because it will take over 10g to get going again. Tires will rule the day again. Too much fuel loss and track related maintenance, unpredictable performance and too complicated to be worked on by farmers. I knew a CAT mechanic, he worked on D8s and such, he gave me his tools when he died. You haven't seen tools until you've seen the size needed to rebuild a CAT undercarriage.
@bobbyharvill4225
4 жыл бұрын
C.A. Carlson Cat had four tracks designed a long time, before they even entered the farm market. Case gambled with the idea and it worked out. I don't blame others go riding it. That's just smart.

You still can’t negate that people buy the green and yellow for reliability, dealer service availability and proven performance. Price is only relative if you give consideration to all of these. There is no disputing JOHN Deere is the market share leader and desire of most customers who would buy it IF they could. If you are complaining about it, you probably can’t afford it. Period

@@elyfarmsnd You have to harvest the corners regardless if you are going back and forth or in a long left hand spiral. What really matters is header time in the grain. Lets take a theoretical field 6,000' x 6,000' using a 50' head unit it, cutting three passes on each end for 150' turn area. it takes 120 passes and 120 turn a rounds to harvest the grain. At 30 seconds per turn around that's one hour of operation when the head is not cutting product but the cost the same as it were. Cutting to the center leaving about a 250' center so you are not turning too tight the grain head never leave the grain until you reach the edges. I'm not saying it would cut harvest time in half but if it save 5% of the time a d 5% of the fuel it might be worth the effort.

What about 3 combines in the same field following each other with grain cart wouldn’t work in circle. What about the next year seeding in a circle trying to go across the rows. What about ridges in the field from a disk going in a circle. They are Meant for straight passes. What about two crops in the same field. How do you get in the middle if outside crop isn’t ready. What about spraying two crops in the field in a circle. Hard to spray in a circle when we monitor wind for spray drift. What about seeding in a circle your shanks would overlap each other so instead of 7.5 in spacing it would be 15 inch. What about reside management from a combine going in a circle if it’s windy out. What about dragging the field. When you don’t go straight straw bunches out and leaves piles. What about row crops ? Hard to go in a circle when you need to spray down the rows so you don’t run over the plants. But ya other than that should work great. Thanks for the tip.

@@elyfarmsnd It's easy to see you can't think outside the box. Again if you could save 6 man hours ($300.00) and another $300.00 a day in fuel would you try it! It's been 33 years since we did it with beans and hay cutting. We didn't have really large tracts of land though, our biggest fields were almost 200 acres. I would at least have your field mapping tech run a simulation.
