@RifleEyez It's wild. To me this is probably his best song ever. The people that think The Eminem Show is his best album just don't get it. It's easily the SSLP, and that's only as good as it is off the back of the SSEP, and this song! I can't believe I'm only just learning of this version though. I've known about the EP version of Just Don't Give A Fuck for years and that version is just plain better than the LP version. This though, I'm a bit mixed on. The LP version of this one is cleaner and the song sort of deserves to be cleaner, whereas Just Don't Give A Fuck sounds good in the more gritty and raw EP version. I would say the vocals on this version of Rock Bottom are better than the LP version though. I basically say that to say, you can hear the desperation, depression, sadness and anger in his voice at various points in this version of the vocals. That's part of what makes this one of his best songs, and the SSLP his best album(also because of songs like If I had and Just Don't Give a Fuck). I can't decide which version I like better.

@@devantewinston4865 yea, doubling it. Like listen to something like who knew, where during the verses, eminem adlibs specific words or lines and it makes it more aggressive/ prominent. But it also has to do with production and mastering. What I liked about mmlp and it's one of the reason it's my favorite em album, is because em is rapping over simplistic beats. Just some bass, simple drum patterns, and occasional strings for some intensity.. it makes for the layered vocals to stand out more.. he would do that now for the entirety of hooks mostly, but it just doesnt sound as clean as it once did. He did it on the ringer, which is one of my favorite em on kamikaze because it reminded me of the what I said I liked about mmlp regarding its production. Its noticeable on a song like the ringer, but on on song like higher, if it's there, I wouldnt notice it because the production is too loud.

I agree but he’s already done it, all the songs are there and are gonna live for lifetimes, why not try to improve technical ability when you’ve already made the SONGS, as much as I’d like to hear songs like Stan rock bottom sing for the moment say goodby to Hollywood and the list goes on and on, come out nowadays I already can, plus we get the new rappidy rap stuff in personally a fan of just seeing how far the technical bar can be pushed is dope to me

Songs like these save me from time to time ever since when I was a teenager. It’s probably the only source of energy I have in difficult situations. Now I’m 23, challenges I face change (and now they are more relatable to Eminem’s challenges when he wrote this song) but the underlying logic stay the same. Rap saved my life just like it saved his, it’s not like I’ll blow up as a rapper like him, but they help me succeed in my own areas of concentration. I remember in “guts over fear” he said “this is for every kid who all they ever did was trying to get accepted, you are the reason that I made this song”. That’s why he’s one of the few protagonists in my life. He did the job that my parents failed to do.

Yo, I ain't no Slim Shady, but I felt that pain, Counting pennies, pockets flat, drivin' me insane. Rock bottom, that's where I was, lost in the haze, Dreams deferred, empty days, no golden days. But Shady's words, they hit me deep, man, Ignited a fire, burned away the damn shame. I picked myself up, dusted off the dirt, No more handouts, time to assert. Hustled hard, sleepless nights, a hungry mind, Built my empire, one brick at a time. From counting change to signing the deal, Ain't no looking back, this is the real. So if you're down low, feelin' the weight, Remember, even Shady rose from a desolate state. Find your strength, ignite that flame, You can climb that mountain, just don't be lame.

I miss this early shit, it kinda half-died by the time we got to MMLP. The guitar in this track is so beautiful, haunting, almost Halloween-like, almost dreamlike, hard to explain but the SSLP is filled with instrumentation like this. It’s a vibe that’s mostly contained to this album and a lot of his underground stuff. For this reason, the SSLP will always hold a special place in my heart. Such a unique period of time.

What makes this sadder than the album version, is that this was before Dre discovered him. With the album version, although he was in a depressing point In his life, he had the financial backing and reassurance from Dre (one of his idols) that his music was going to be a success. But when he recorded the demo version he had none of those things. So far in his life nobody recognized his talent and he wasn't making any money nor getting recognition for his music. At this point, he basically lost all hope that he would be able to make it big and be able to get him and his family out of poverty. To him, this was truly where he hit rock bottom.

I was born in 84, Germany. In 1999 I was working my first side job in a big mart, bagging shit at the checkout. Me and some friends made a lot of money (for a 14yo) thanks to tips and went to the 1st floor where CDs and videogames were sold. I bought a couple of CDs back then, no clue what else, but I 100% remember buying the Slim Shady LP. "My Name Is" and "Guilty Conscience" had just had their releases/hit the charts, but no one of us had the slightest clue how good this album or Eminem was. I remember listening to this and being "meh" at first. I mean at 14 what the hell did I know. But the more I listened to it, the more I loved it. "If I Had" was such a strong track, just blew me away, especially when I had a broken heart. Role Model was such a smart, awesome song. As the World Turns was so funny, Em really was a master lyricist at this point already. Just/Still Don't Give a Fuck are both stellar and Bad Meets Evil first introduced me to Royce and I really dug it too. Now My Name Is I used to not even like that much, but it grew on me over time based on how perfectly it fit the time, the themes back then, pop culture..and of course he just raps so well - I know it by heart now. But Rock Bottom always spoke to me in a special way. The melancholic melody, the descriptive title, "I feel like I'm walkin' a tightrope" ...I just felt seen in a way I really hadn't before and it's still my favourite of the album and probably in my top 3 of Eminem's tracks ever. So there you have it, a glimpse into what you were unable to experience. But honestly, I listened to Nas, Outkast and others before so it wasn't THAT life altering. The most remarkable thing, me being a white European kid, was having a white rapper who was really, really good. As with most legends, you don't really realize it from the start, but over time.

italiano [Intro] Ah yeah, Yo! [Ritornello - Eminem]
