My son was born a month after Columbine. I remember thinking how tragic that children would do this but saying to myself :’ this will never happen again.’ Since his middle school years, he’s heard about multiple mass shootings. The Sandy Hook shooting happened 15 miles from our home. His friend’s brother was in one of the classrooms that day but the shooter didn’t get a chance to get in there. In high school, he’s had ‘active shooter drills’. I never had to even think about this growing up. These children have had a very complex world in which they’ve had to adapt to. Yes, there is brutal bullying going on. For that, adult intervention should’ve taken place. The problem begins with violent thoughts when once verbalized, should be taken very seriously and NEVER ignored. Having easy access to weapons, in this state of mind, is inevitably lethal.

In the matter of these short months of 2018, over a dozen shootings have taken place. How many more have to die for someone to realize there's an issue with a variable in which we have the power to change? @@cara9680 ur right, those currently gun laws in Parkland, Florida did not work. Guns were very strictly prohibited in Parkland. In fact, Parkland is quite heavily a gun-free zone. Gun laws did not work there, despite Parkland being mostly anti-gun. I never said I'm against protecting schools. Don't put words into my mouth. Did you know that the NRA has a sub-section in their party that is dedicated to protecting schools, and training the school safety staff with weapons including firearms? No, because you think that the NRA are all terrorists, despite none of the NRA members committing any crimes. You probably think I'm an old white male, but I'm not. I'm a bisexual asian 14 year old. Do I feel safe during school? Not really, because what are the school safety staff gonna do, act as a meat shield? It's not a matter of restricting guns, it's a matter of giving people guns who need it. Hence, schools should have one dedicated and trained safety staff that uses a gun.

I feel that this whole issue about gun control manifestations and marches has been totally misrepresented by some and misunderstood by others. It’s not about deleting weapons off the face of the Earth although that would be great if you ask me. Nor is it about denying responsible folks access to them as some claim or even eliminating the Second Amendment as the NRA has been implying. It is about controlling “as much as possible” who gains access to them in order to prevent “as much as possible” the types of situations like school mass killings and so forth we’ve been seeing for years. Pro-gun folks should be on the side of these kids not against them. That’s my take on this issue.

It's painfully obvious that Americans don't understand what gun control actually is. No rational person would be against it. Canada has gun control. Canada has AR15s. Canada doesn’t have a mass shooting problem. In Canada Cruz, Mateen, and Lanza wouldn't have qualified for an AR15. All gun control is, is proper mental health and criminal checks. Gun courses and licenses. Laws about storage and transportation. Longer waiting periods. Needing your gun license to buy ammo. Having your weapon registered when it's bought. Having different levels of licensing which have higher security checks and references. Mentally stable, law abiding citizens get access to guns. These mass shooters are run of the mill mentally ill citizens. They don't know your neighborhood arms dealers. If they managed to find someone to sell them a gun on the streets. They better hope he's also selling them a lot of ammo and high capacity magazines because you can't buy them without a valid gun license. That's gun control.
@hectornegron9155

With all due respect S B. I find your statement so hard to comprehend. Having a gun is not a right or left issue nor is it a Republican vs. Democrat issue either. There are gun enthusiasts all over, at all levels regardless of any differences you may come up with. Case in point Whoopi Goldberg. She is a gun owner and I haven't heard Whoopi talking about banning guns. She along with so many other gun owners are talking about gun control, not gun banning. That's what this is really all about. Reducing this demonstration to a right vs left affair makes no sense at all friend.
