Different storm, of course, but I was laying listening to similar rain last night in my Ontour at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds on my way south from Portland oregon for the winter. Nothing cozier than laying in a comfortable bed listening to the storm blowing outside.

Vogel is a sort of mountain bowl that makes for a beautiful hole in the fabric of mobile data connectivity. We also got rained on so hard that Wolf Creek overflowed and washed out the poor tent campers across from us in Site 68. Hopefully fixing that was part of your detour. But that waterfall was AMAZING after all that rain.

That babbling brook turned into a rushing river with all that rain from Nicole! Grew up going to Vogel State Park every summer. It's beautiful. That road is curvy. My Dad used to fly on that curvy road trying to scare me. It worked. lol The Applachian trail does run through Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap. It's the only part on the 2200 mile hike that the AT actual goes through a building. There's also a tree that everybody throws their hiking boots in when they decide to quit their AT hike after the approach trail which is one of the hardest parts of the trail. My Aunt & I ran off the side of the mountain in her Volkswagen Bug on that curvy road when I was a kid. It was a cold, dark, rainy night. I'll never forget it. Luckily the trees and brush stopped us from going all the way down the side of the mountain. We hiked up to Mountain Crossings in the middle of the night to call someone from the phone booth for help, but the phone didn't work. My Dad came out looking for us when we didn't arrive home when we were supposed to. He found us asleep and cuddled up in the phone booth. Love seeing all the Georgia state parks!
