They are way overpriced, can’t find one CT for under 1,000 the .7’s have lots of crystals inclusions and flaws for 1k+. You can find a 1.5ct diamond w same flaws for 1300-1500. That only a few hundred more and two times the size. Still I like looking at that site just to look

As a jeweler from an AGS Jeweler, you forgot to mention that the jewelry store that they should be buying from should be an AGS jeweler. These jewelers are held to strict guidelines of honesty, fairness, and ethical practice, it’s so strict as a matter of fact only 1 of 20 jewelry stores make the cut. It’s the jewelry industry version of the better business bureau to protect you, the consumer. As a matter of fact it has the same founder as GIA and they both grade diamonds as well.

Here's the thing. For most of us around the world, the GIA isn't going to certify all our diamonds. They only have about 10 places worldwide. If you compare the amount of diamonds out there with 10 GIA institutes, only a tiny quantity of the diamonds are going to go through GIA.

I'm all for purchasing online...But throwing the rip-off tag might be a bit harsh. Not all stores are looking to rip-off their customers, especially if the buyer is informed (which should always be the case). Chain retail stores need to address overhead, have to make some margin and may have investors to answer to. It's business 101...so of course it will be more expensive. Pay more...you can see the diamond first hand...pay less...you can only see online...Its a give and take. I will say, James Allen does do a great job of giving you a detailed look at the diamond on-line.
@Namron9797

Except it is IMPOSSIBLE to know what you are buying if you cant physically see it right in front of you. 2 identical (on paper) diamonds will look completely different irl. Also, most of the time you buy online you do not get the diamond you looked at, but a diamond that is graded the same.

Maybe random stand alone jewlery stores might try and trick you but typically a jewlery chain thats well known wont trick you. Also the cut of the diamond makes up almost 50% of the price/value of the diamond. Carat size and claritiy then both around 20% and color around 10%. Another thing that drives the price/value is the rarity of the diamond. A 1.00ctw round brilliant with a i1 clarity and h color is a lot more common then a 1.50ctw round brilliant with a si2 clarity and f color and that alone could easily make a diamond like 40% more expensive.

As someone that used to buy and sell diamond rings.. 3 things 1. Make sure the diamond has been through the “Kimberly process”, means it’s not a blood diamond 2. Buy second hand, diamonds are sold for over 10x their actual value the first time 3. Make sure it’s not a moissanite, it’s a created diamond, but will test as a real diamond. Any other questions please ask !

Hello @Rick Buck, I'm Ricardo (a perfectionist too) from México. I want to thank you a lot for your information. Im sure you´re helping a lot of people. I just have one question since I'm combining all the best attributes and getting prices to high for me; which attributes would yo give more weight between Color and Clarity? And from which level and up would you say the money is not worth it in each case?. Bonus question; is it that big of a deal to get 0.95 Carat instead of 1? Which cut is more trendy nowadays? Princes Cut or Round
@Sharon-pb7so
7 жыл бұрын
Ricardo Valdés Cut is the most important, then clarity, then color. If you can find a diamond that's VS1, G, and has an excellent, excellent, excellent GIA report you're buying a good, no, really great diamond. Going just under a carat is better than being an exact carat because the cutter will frequently cut the diamond off just a bit to preserve weight. Round diamonds have more sparkle than any other cut. The excellent, excellent, excellent GIA rating stands for excellent cut, polish and symmetry.
@Sharon-pb7so
7 жыл бұрын
I forgot to answer your last question.... which is most trendy. A round diamond is very traditional a princess cut is more trendy. That said, don't let any jeweler tell you anything other than a round cut will cost more because it's more exotic or complicated to cut. It's a lie. Never buy a marquise shape, they are almost always included and lack sparkle unless your girl has her heart set on one. Then, you're going to have a lot of homework to do because of the bow tie and other issues with that cut.

I'm a jeweler and certified gemologist (GIA). I can tell you that the best deals you can get on diamonds is from a Pawn Shop. A lot of pawnshops have diamonds that they collect and then sell off to wholesalers which in turn sell them to jewelers to be set into the rings that this guy is telling you how to buy here on KZitem. You can get the diamond for far less by going to the source which is pawn shops. Pawnshops get 100's of calls a month from wholesalers and brokers trying to buy up their excess stones. You can get certified diamonds for a fraction of what the jeweler or wholesaler buys them for. What you do is shop around and find the absolute best deal you can find. By the way, GIA is a for-profit lab as well. They are a school that gives them non-profit status (the school end of it) however the diamond end of it is for-profit 100%!!! (I went there, I know!) . The real way to buy a diamond as a gift is if it looks good to you and has everything you want in a diamond, and it's got a certification from ANY of the reputable grading services, and lastly if the price is right for you in comparison to other diamonds you have looked at. That's all that matters. You are NOT making an investment! There are no 1-2ct actual investment diamonds. In the end, anyone that buys a diamond less than 7-10cts for investment is a fool. Diamonds are not an investment. They are an overpriced piece of compressed and heated carbon and nothing more. They are very common. Machines now make them. In the very near future machines will be making ALL the diamonds in the world and of any size or color you like. Prices will fall drastically. Lastly, this video educates you on diamonds. It doesn't educate you on how to buy them at a fair price. EVERY regular jewelry store in America is still making well over 100% profit on every stone sold. Mall stores are the worst places to buy. A mall store has a rent of $30,000 - $50,000 a month and that's just the rent! Where do you think they get the money to pay that rent each month? (Hint: Your pocket!).

Can’t go wrong with a black diamond. They are very reasonable and will definitely hold up better than an onyx. I will say they typically won’t be “excellent cut” but on the contrary of what the uneducated guy talking in the video said it will be fine. Usually depending on the size they can range from under $100 to no more than $1500 from what I’ve seen.

It’s diamonds that are so included that they “blast” (treat) so that they can be used for the most part, very inexpensive way to owning a diamond, in general for any colored diamond I prefer treated, to get a natural fancy color is way too costly but if you have the money for it and don’t mind to have that cool feature knowing it natural came out that way go for natural

Asking for a general price on a diamond is like asking a mechanic how much it will cost to fix the noise in your car. There are dozens of factors that play together to get a price. Some tips: 1. You pay a premium (no set amount) the moment you hit 1.00ct diamond, then again at 1.5 etc etc. And the pricing for varying color/clarity grows as the diamond gets larger. For instance, a 2ct SI2 color H might be $500 more than a 2ct SI2 color I (even though it's only 1 shade darker)

Don’t waste your $$ on clarity enhanced. If you have a ring with a clarity enhanced diamond, you take it to a jewelry store to have it cleaned and if they are unaware, odds are the “gel” used to fill the holes in the diamond (to remove the inclusions they can) will come out when being steam cleaned or even from being in the ultrasonic for too long. If you’re on a tight budget maybe a lab created diamond or even a moissanite would be a better option.
@Namron9797
6 жыл бұрын
You get a lab-grown diamond. They are real, true diamonds. (only they grew in different environments) If you still can't afford that, then get a moissanite. Never do a CZ as they show wear too quickly and other white stones don't sparkle and look flat.

Jewelry stores are absolutely not the ones to worry about "ripping you off" -- unless you're taking about a box store. Shop with a local family owned jewelry store-- they have your best interest in mind and their reputation on the line so they're interested in making customers happy, and they're also available to service your jewelry. An online company has zero interest in you beyond your initial purchase. You're fearmongering by making people think REAL jewelers are interested in ripping you off.

When you have a brick and motor store you have overhead, insurance to pay for your employees, money to go in their pocket. I would simply say, if you buy from a small local jewelry store you would be doing your community and yourself a much better service. I don't know a small business owner that wouldn't compete with online to keep the business local. Not to mention someone will be working for you.

You generalize and imply that all jewelry stores try to "trick" people. Most jewelry stores are very transparent and enjoy helping their clients.

Holy cow! This is so awful. You spent what?!?!? 10 min online reseacrching diamonds and now you think you are an expert? You are going to allow people to trust you and your bad advice only for them to get screwed? The only thing you got right was the GIA is (one of) the best. This video is the IGI of diamond buying advice.

Focus on gold! Diamonds are immensely abundant. If you need to buy a diamond, all that matters is the cut and size. Woman will not understand quality or care. VVS doesn't mean anything to them, but 2 or 3 carats does and a good cut will make it twinkle more.

@@RickBuck thats not true. You dont a diamond ring to get married. You can buy a silver ring, gold ring, get a gemstone ring. And if the girl only wants a diamond ring...than is she worth it?

Many people are getting moissanite or white sapphire rings and love it. People only buy diamonds because of the clever marketing surrounding them making them seem much more valuable and necessary than they are

@@RickBuck Get dumped if you don't "buy" a ring? Sounds like prostitution to me. Marriage rates are the lowest in 93 years. Women initiate 72.5% of all divorces via the book Women's Infidelity written by Michelle Langley. Women now doll out sex easier than ever due to women's sexual liberation. And.... we are supposed to buy diamonds, yeah no thanks.

Yeah, ALL of you are wrong. 1. Diamonds are chosen because it is the ONLY material on earth that will last for millions of years if taken care of. Name one single thing that can claim to last that long. Go on...really, go ahead and name one. (You cant) Now factor in that it can be passed down for generations and carry all that sentiment with it... 2. There is no true substitute for diamond that has the same refractive index and durability. Moissanite is the closest, but can often have a green or yellow hue to them and isnt natural. White sapphire is garbage and looks like cheap glass. And the difference in hardness is 100x less than a diamond. 3. It takes billions, literally billions, to start and operate a diamond mine. Also, current mines only have 150 years max before they are depleted. They arent just expensive because someone says so. De Beers doesnt own the diamond market anymore and havent for decades now. Just because YOU don't find worth in it doesn't mean it has no worth. You like that house you live in, your car, whatever ring you wear now? Thank diamonds for all of it cause if it werent for diamond blades those things would be ugly or significantly more expensive to buy.
