I wonder if this is a deferred maintenance issue as it sounds like they are in "BK". I am guessing ground services wants "cash in advance"

I wonder if this is the same Cargojet 767 we were stuck behind in Montreal because they had problems with their right engine?

If that plane was a Cargojet 767, then no since this aircraft is Amerijet (a different airline)

@@andrew-m Wow ... thanks for correcting me. I didn't see the difference.

Why do air traffic controllers tell the pilots of aircraft with engine problems to make particular turns when they don't know whether one engine is out on two-engine aircraft or which one is out if one is? Wouldn't it make more sense to let aircraft with their right engine out make right-hand turns and aircraft with their left engine out make left-hand turns?

To help guide and direct back the best way with other traffic in the area, etc. Pilot can and will do anything to keep the thing in the air. If he needs right turns, he can say that as well. He just needs help now and that takes it off his plate while dealing with the issue at hand.

@@ryanmann3412 Still, it seems inappropriate for ATC to direct pilots to make specific turns in such circumstances without knowing which engine is out.

@@rdbchase Why? The pilot asked for vectors. If he wanted specific turns he would've asked for vectors of right/left turn only. A plane can make a turn on one engine and they are professionals and know how to do so properly. He just asked for vectors, which is saying "you guide me to keep me safely clear of anyone around until I get situated and set up for landing" which will help take that added stress off his plate. ATC complied and gave him exactly what he asked for according to what he sees on that radar to safely do so and quickest way to the runway that is needed.

@@ryanmann3412 Because pilots have turned in the wrong direction after engine failures and come to grief; after such an instruction, the pilot does not know whether he can turn the opposite direction safely.

@@rdbchase Then pilot will say "unable". The ATC does not know and gives him exactly what is asked of him. It's a 2-way street. The pilot will ask for this type of vector if needed. He did not. So nothing ATC did was inappropriate. Everything was textbook. Perhaps a professional such as ATC controller or professional pilot can chime in on this thread and correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard nothing wrong in this exchange. I think it was more concerning on the overweight landing after everything was set up in this instance. 🤷🏽♂
