One possible side effect of COVID-19 vaccination can be swollen lymph nodes in the underarm, usually on the side where the COVID-19 vaccination was given. It may on occasion get larger to the point of being found on a breast exam or seen on your screening mammogram. There is no reason to worry as our breast imaging physicians have seen lymph node swelling happen with the flu shot, shingles vaccine, and with infections in the breast, upper back, skin, or arm.
It is okay to come in and have your mammogram; staff will be glad to answer any questions you have about your appointment.
If you have a lump or your doctor has a concern about your breasts, you should schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Any new problem in the breast needs to be evaluated by our doctors to make sure it is nothing serious.
