Mavis: has endless weird dreams, some diva ghost won't stop haunting her, possessed throat, rival out to get her, has a near death experience from a sandbag Annie: SHE NEEDS SOME MILK

Tbh, as someone who is violently at odds with dairy, I think that a woman who is so lactose intolerant that she sees ghosts when she eats dairy is a fantastic concept. Can you imagine having concrete knowledge that a malevolent spirit is fixin to do something truly heinous, but you can’t do anything about it because you’re stuck on the john? What if the poltergeist sets a kitchen fire while she’s parked up? Are we attempting to exorcise between the waves of stomach cramps? Are the benevolent spirits visiting you in the bathroom, or are they waiting until you’re done? Does lactaid hinder you from using your powers? The conflict. The intrigue. The drama. I’m here for it 😂

1:51 me too! I love, I adore horror movies but nowadays brutal sexual violence is everywhere and I just can’t watch such scenes. For me it isn’t scary, it’s just traumatic to watch. Thank you so much for the recommendation, I will definitely check out this podcast

😂 amazing review you're really funny. They could have worked the milk into the story by stating that's how was mom was poisoned. The ghost is doing it again because she truly wants to be the only one on the stage no one could ever compare 🤷🏿♀️

Love the author lore growing to include all the other authors you've read so now I'm just imagining a Ark-La-Tex author universe where everyone lives at an older citizen apartment complex and they all write but no one talks about it so they just make snide remarks in the cafeteria every now and then. there's cliques for the different genres. inter-genre fraternizing is a scandal and the nurses/workers all have bets going around about various plot points that are based on real life events. Mrs Dorothy is definitely a Blanche type 😂 great spooky story for the month! edit: after googling several things i'm going to say the time period is late 1890s/turn of the 1900s to take into account the carriages, the oil/gas lamps, Mavis being a typist and when that became a common job for women to hold, etc. Carmen was written in 1868 but wasn't acclaimed until 1875 and would need at least a decade to get as popular as it was, and then Ernestine needs to be from a time period that's at least 16 years prior to the story so earliest I'll say 1890 and latest 1905 if I were picturing the costuming in my head tbh

All the milk consumption is doubly stupid when we remember the story is about opera singers. Most singers have been avoiding dairy for ages, because it produces mucus, but, sure, down another one, Mavis.

Warm milk should only exist in farm stories and even then one mention maximum ("fresh milk" is better description than "warm" though.)

The ticket guy could have been hanging out suspiciously backstage throughout the book because he recognized Annie from somewhere but didn't know where, and he could have been a red herring for the sandbag or something. That way he wouldn't have been such a rando and it would have explained why it took so long for Claude to put the pieces together

A horror novel I'd love to recommend, though I've never read it, is the obscure novel "The Forsaken" by Cameron Read from 1982. It's based on a local historic site and it makes up so so so much in terms of the history there. Strong disclaimer that events, people, and even rooms in the historic house mentioned are absolutely made up for the novel but from what I've been told it's at least entertaining enough, if you can find a copy.

16-24 years old: adults in the making / on parol , but I hear you. ( and 16 because depending on where you are and how you grew up, dam you might as well be 30) Sorry for picking up on that on. That series reminds me a lot of my mother. she had tons of these book ( johana lindsey novels) and one summer I read them all. Me and my younger sister were named after two protagonists and while it is a fun story... I am not really proud of it. And when I read said novel my name is from... oh boy... But I hope you will continue this series.
