A typical day for Robert looks different than it did pre-Covid. Pre-Covid Robert would be up at 6:00, I’d help him with his shower and dressing, Richard would get him breakfast and a van would pick him up and he’d be off to Day Program with his friends.
Day Program went online soon after Covid hit and our schedule completely changed. As time went on, Robert needed more sleep so we let him sleep in. He had more difficulty with showers so we cut them to 3 - 4 days a week (thanks to a dear friend who told me it would be okay to not shower him daily). Three days a week Robert plays bingo online with his friends from Day Program. Thankfully, Day Program is slowly opening back up for a few hours one day a week which Robert enjoys.
At home, in between meals and bingo, Robert works on his word search and watches game shows (or sci-fi shows if Richard can sneak one in). I either go into another room to work or head into the office for a few hours.
Robert had several seizures today but he still managed to watch Family Feud with Richard. He loves Steve Harvey and reminds us at the beginning of each show that “Steve Harvey is bald and has a mustache too!” Yes, Robert, yes he does.
I know watching a lot of tv isn’t good for a person but it brings Robert a lot of happiness. He laughs at all of Steve Harvey’s jokes and claps when his favorite family wins (oh yes, Robert has favorites!). He repeats all the answers and sometimes seems to think Steve Harvey is personally telling his goodnight.
Is it bad for him to watch a lot of tv? Absolutely not. I wouldn’t dare take away something that brings him such joy.
