SAPPO is contributing to making agriculture more environmentally friendly, sustainable, and future-looking by working alongside farmers who produce pork across southern Africa.
SAPPO farmers are able to produce more with fewer resources thanks to the advancements of new processes, technology, science and genetics.
An increasing global population that has surpassed 8 billion people means that farmers have to produce more with fewer resources. They can no longer farm the same way they did 20 or even 10 years ago. Science is offering a helping hand though, particularly when it comes to genetics.
A few misconceptions remain when it comes to livestock rearing. Genetics companies do not genetically modify organisms, but rather use research to select the healthiest animals from the best bloodline to breed with based on a farm’s needs.
Together genetics, health, feed, environment and farm management help to create high-quality meat, while keeping the animals’ wellbeing in mind, coupled with respect for the natural world.
Watch our short film which dismantles misconceptions about genetics in livestock farming and how selecting the best bloodline allows for responsible and sustainable breeding.
