I have had FMS forever, with injury leading to this pain my whole life adding sciatica. I noticed past age 40, that WEARING HEELS induces it! Since abandoning heels, the pain is gone. True FMS causes immunity to opioids, so shame on your physicians for giving you a diagnosis and THEN prescribing what is well known to be ineffective. 😡 I was completely crippled by it in my early 30's and tried Lyrica/Pregabalin in desperation because nothing worked. POOF! All pain GONE and got my life back. If you check for FMS tenderpoints in the chest and have that (deep bruising acid burning pain when pressed) then you have it-nobody should have any sort of pain there. Yoga works wonders for it. Just slow and deep stretching. Anyway, that is a treatment that changed my life, but I definitely have FMS. If you wear heels, abandon that and see! 😊❤

I think I'll share my discovery here. I noticed around pwrimenopause that my previous hip pain (back injury) got worse too, ladies. I started to notice a correlation between wearing heels and pain-which was NEW. I switched to flat shoes only and WOW! So there is a 100% marked decrease in our hips tolerating heels with age! ❤😊 Yes-it causes this pain! The relief from wearing flat shoes only and daily stretching is amazing. I encourage all to try this.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:07 *🚺 Menopause and perimenopause increase the likelihood of experiencing greater trochanteric pain syndrome in women.* 00:37 *🧬 Healthy tendons are made of tightly packed collagen fibers, contributing to their strength and ability to withstand force.* 01:32 *💪 Exercise induces a cycle of micro trauma and repair in tendons, strengthening them over time.* 02:26 *🔄 This cycle of damage and repair also occurs in bones, enhancing their health through regular exercise.* 02:54 *⏳ The perimenopause stage can begin in the late 30s to mid-40s and may last up to 10 years, leading to menopause.* 03:21 *📉 Menopause is marked by a drop in oestrogen and progesterone levels, affecting collagen turnover in tendons.* 04:49 *🤕 Reduced collagen turnover due to decreased oestrogen can lead to injury if exercise load is not adjusted.* 05:17 *🚴♀️ Adjusting exercise routines and recovery periods is crucial for women experiencing menopause to manage tendon health.* 06:38 *🏋️♀️ For rehabilitation, high weight, slow speed, and lower repetition exercises are recommended for greater trochanteric pain syndrome.* 07:30 *🧪 Collagen synthesis changes during perimenopause/menopause may require adjustments in rehabilitation exercise progression.* 08:01 *📊 A higher incidence of lateral hip pain in women post-menopause is linked to changes in oestrogen levels affecting collagen turnover.* Made with HARPA AI

Get hormone replacement therapy immediately. Do not wait. In the first 5 years of menopause we lose 2% of our bone per year and 1% each year after that. 15 years from menopause you will have lost 20% of your bone and it does not come back with exercise, diet or estrogen replacement. Estrogen replacement will prevent further bone loss.

The first step should be to get it properly diagnosed. The menopause may have contributed but you need to know if your pain is coming from your bones, tendons, muscles, nerves and which ones if any. Once you know the source of the pain, then you can start figuring out the correct treatment plan for it.

Thanks so much for this. I am 55 and over time have been noticing more and more lateral hip pain that seems to move around. I am currently in PT that I just started - mostly for my back. My physical medicine doctor said she wasn't a fan of yoga and my PT said yoga is good, she just isn't a fan of long pose holds. So I tried to modify and I'm in pain again today. I am going to give up on yoga for a while as when I do, the hip pain goes away but comes right back when I try to do even a light practice. . Maybe I just need a long while to heal or maybe I need a scan if it doesn't get better after a good amount of time off, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is related to menopause and maybe I just won't be able to do certain things. Thanks for offering up other suggestions. It's hard to let go of a yoga practice, but there's other things to do. Thought m ight workout on my mini-trampoline and see how that goes.

Hi Catherine, you perhaps just require time to do focused exercises to rehab your hips first. Most moves in Yoga require combination movements and I find that it is often best to start with very low load exercises and only in straight lines and restricting the range as well. So rehab first (your physio should be providing your with exercises) and then much later return to yoga. Successful rehab of this can take 6 to 12 months of progressive rehab exercises.

Siatic nerve. Look on utube for therapist who show u correct movement exercises. Mine hurts just laying on that particular side. My husband has the same problem. Yes it comes and goes . Try new pillow foam type insoles into proper tennis s type shoes. No flats. No heals of any kind. When I was still working every day cleaning others houses, I would have to have a new pair of proper fitting shoes every six months. It's been going on for years now, so has the menopause symptoms, but the symptoms are different now , nit better but different. Tubes tied and then partial hysterectomy. I'm only 58. Five years of no sex, hurts to much and no libido. But hey, have not had to worry about getting pregnant for about 30 years now and no cycle either. Had beginning stages of endometriosis. The same applies to post menopause. Post menopause just means that you're now on a constant lower level of hormones but that at least it has stopped dropping. So you have now reached your new 'normal' hormone level which is lower than before the process started and going forward your body will always take longer to recover and heal.
