This 6th episode follows the legendary Route 40 in the Patagonian part, ie from the border with Chile to Mendoza (famous for its wine).
As a reminder, Route 40 (Ruta Nacional 40) connects the south of Argentina to the North, i.e. 5194 kms, yes, you read that right, 5194 kms in a largely North-South axis. It is a hyphen for the whole of Argentina which is largely traveled by "Bus". These "Buses" are in fact comfortable coaches borrowed by Argentines to circulate in the country for journeys of tens of hours (to date, my maximum is 19 consecutive hours).
Route 40 is in itself a center of interest, it is both very monotonous and there is always something going on there, a "thing" like, "you stay glued to the window without really knowing why".
Along this road and a few deviations, you will discover glaciers, in particular the most accessible Perito Moreno but also some other less famous ones. You will stop in the Argentinian capital of trekking, I named El Chalten, and its famous Fitz-Roy all in granite which culminates at 3405 m.. and you will discover some of the many hikes.
Going up, you will be amazed by the "Cueva de los Manos" (the cave of the hands) which is in the open air and which is of the same level of prehistoric interest as the Lascaux or Chauvet caves. The quality of conservation in the open air is impressive and allows a visit in natural light. The visit is very moving, the hands are almost alive even if they are between 9000 ac and 2000 ac.
Finally, and for me this is the high point of this episode, I shared for 2 days the daily life of José a Gaucho (herdsman) who lives in the middle of the steppe. We rode a lot, including only by moonlight, talked a lot, ate very well and laughed at some funny situations. Thank you very much Jose.
Hà I forgot, there is a surprise towards the end of the video... you will tell me about it.
Ahead !
